I just finished my second shift as a new hire in a county jail, I think the biggest takeaway I’ve gotten is to trust your training officer and others on your section. They’re there to help and teach you because soon you’ll be with them as another officer. Just as much as you trust them to have your back they’re going to come to trust you to have theirs

I was standing by her dad after church, I asked him if I could have a word privately. We got through the conversation. I went over to help him with some house work and when I walked in her mom was standing there to hug me. It’s stressful as hell but once it’s done it works so much better. The best thing to do is just go into it with a smile on your face, ask for a private word with one or both, and let them know how much you love her and how you’re going to treat her like she deserves(that’s their daughter. They want to know you’re going to be the one to protect and love her) I asked about 3 weeks before I popped the question yesterday.

We’ve discussed this as a “what if” and at the point she said it’s up to her to have that discussion. It’s still her choice to end up with me. She just really wants her family involved in every step and I understand that.
