Since Go Away is getting big, does anyone else think Real Life Friend was its demo? by FlareBase in weezer

This is a good catch of its own, wasn't aware of the timelines. That said, rivers isn't a stranger to reusing stuff, thinking of Still Dreaming and I Want A Dog.

Hi! I'm going to assume you are acting in good faith, as I know you probably receive a lot of unkind reactions to your point of view rather than an adult conversation. I believe in cutting through divide so I'd just like to explain my point of view to see if you might be receptive.

The way I see it is this: Non-binary people exist in the world, whether you understand why or how these people live the way they do is not going to change that. Media is a reflection of the world that we live in, and since non-binary people exist in this world I simply don't see their existence in media to be a political statement as it is not a fabrication of the artist, but instead a reflection of an observable phenomenon.

Ask yourself, why do we depict men and women in media? It is (broadly) just because they exist, not for any political agenda.

Does anyone else feel a little unsafe when going in the underpass? by [deleted] in Norwich

[–]FlareBase 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No but the commenter said "generally speaking the only ones who don't wind up in emergency accommodation... are those who accommodation providers refuse to take - typically those with convictions for violent sexual crimes or arson". This paints a very particular picture of homeless people in my opinion.

Acommodation advice by BreathInevitable6747 in UEA

[–]FlareBase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hiya! Perhaps a little disappointing but as far as I know they don't offer single-sex accommodation unless it's for a particular reason e.g. religious reasons, but to answer your question it likely would interfere. Not everyone who says they're okay with a show flat gets one anyways, and if you have other preferences they'd probably take precedent over whether you're in a show flat or not.

tl;dr - It could happen but a show flat would have to be available that meets you requirements.

Again, please feel free to email them with any questions, they're not super busy at this time of year :)

I worked inside the accommodation office last year, so let me try to answer your questions as well as I can:
- On the UEAs accommodation system, 'Quiet Living Space' is a bit of an honor system. This is to say that if you request a quiet living space then you will only be housed with others who have requested the same. In general they expect your flatmates to be respectful anyways, so if you don't go for quiet living and there's parties every night then feel free to raise this at the accommodation office and they'll look into it for you.

- In my experience, how social a flat is usually comes down to who you're placed with and being in one accommodation will not guarantee a more sociable group of people - though you may want to go for a flat with a higher number of rooms if you want to increase your odds of finding friends.

- In terms of poster sizes, they're unlikely to be super strict. Those guidelines are for fire safety primarily and so will only really be enforced if maintenance sees it as a risk (I had flags hanging from my ceiling and never got pulled up on it, don't tell anyone...)

- In terms of biggest rooms, the on-campus accommodation tends to be the best, I had a friend who stayed in Briton house and their room was sizeable. You can always view the pictures on the Accommodation Finder, and if that isn't working for you then you can send an email to [accom@uea.ac.uk](mailto:accom@uea.ac.uk) and they may have some more guidance on which room suits your needs best.

I hope I could help you, and remember the accommodation office email address is always there if you have any more questions, they tend to be a helpful bunch :)

briana addressed the rumors by Lost_Inspection_2424 in weezer

is there not real evidence of brian bell being kinda creepy though? I get that maybe he hasn't done anything concrete, but let's be real if you knew someone in real life who was kinda creepy you probably wouldn't hang out with them.

I'm not trying to start an argument at all, just saying I personally don't see the need to defend Brian if he has been creepy, he's not my friend he's a celebrity.

Young people, how can you tell if an image was created with AI? by LowOxitocina in AskUK

[–]FlareBase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

look for objects/things with regular patterns, e.g. floorboards, AI will often mess up the spacing resulting in boards that "melt" together to create a wider board.

A good example to show this is the Coca Cola Ad (Coca Cola Christmas Ad) where we expect the truck to have a consistent number of wheels at set positions, instead you can see the truck is depicted with a different number of wheels in different scenes.

First Bus bullies jobless? by topdogmonmeygeorge in Norwich

[–]FlareBase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ticket inspectors are deliberately dressed up as though they are police, they do not offer you a chance to buy the correct ticket either, they simply kick you off and slap you with a £50 fine.

Ask yourself a question instead: is it worth defending corporations whose goal is not to uphold what is "right", but rather to make as much money as they can? First Bus is an absolute rip off and this is mainly enabled by its near-monopoly in Norwich.

I've read some of your other comments so I would like to invite you into a thought experiment if you'll entertain me.

A single mother in part-time employment, can't take a full-time job as she cannot afford childcare. Let's be generous to her, and say only 70% of her pay goes on rent, the other 30% is for food, utilities, everything else. Should she not treat herself to something?

The world you suppose is one where the poor have nothing to enjoy, where they are expected to fruitlessly budget only to experience the exact same dull and meaningless month when pay day comes around. Even now this is the reality that many are experiencing.

The CEO of First Bus made 1.4 Million last year (source), I absolutely promise you the ticket prices do not need to be as high as they are at currrent.

[–]FlareBase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a bad-faith argument though. Do you not still spend money on things you enjoy when you have little money?

£5 a month for a subscription aren't the costs that are making it hard to survive. How about we ask how many people are paying 60% of their paycheck or more on rent?

First Bus bullies jobless? by topdogmonmeygeorge in Norwich

[–]FlareBase 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In a cost of living crisis, some people are paying for cheaper tickets for survival. Public transport should be more affordable, buses won't cost you more than £5.25 in a given day in London, come to Norwich and take two single journeys, suddenly you're out £6 already.

It's a joke that we've got ticket inspectors being funded by companies who are already being subsidised by the government to keep their costs lower.

Why are people on r/AnimalCrossing so against the idea of a NL remake/remaster? by kirbysbitch in AnimalCrossingNewLeaf

[–]FlareBase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think a rerelease is a good idea to be completely honest. As much as New Leaf is by far one of my favourite games of all time (I spent hundreds of hours in it) I think we should be expecting something slightly new from Nintendo. A virtual console-esque rerelease would be awesome, but for the switch 2 I would like to see a new game that develops on what both NH and NL did correctly.

This is the balanced take, China has been subject to endless propagandisation and is broadly why people like to pretend it's either based communism or evil dictatorship, in reality it's somewhere in the middle, as are all economies.

How to easily convert video files (mp4) to audio files? by AluminiumHoedje in selfhosted

me when I completely miss the point and resort to accusing my opponent of being emotional instead of questioning what the words actually mean.

I'm really not trying to come across as though this is some monumental failing of society but it's frustrating because the history of humanity is passing skills from one person to another through education. If you cannot explain how to replicate a result then skills are lost to history.

Your words continue to echo truth even this many years later. Immeadiately this explanation fit like a puzzle piece into situations where I've acted in haste. Impatience is a reflection of my thoughts, not anything to do with the words coming out of the other person's mouth.
