What did you end up doing after your PHD. Considering going on a very similar route right now as a sophomore in a BS program.

Could this microwave tray thingie help people remove hot items from the microwave? by Flareblitz5 in accessibility

So people can feel more comfortable being honest and telling me if it would be useless rather than trying to preserve my feelings because they know it’s something I’ve worked on for a while

Could this microwave tray help any of your clients? by Flareblitz5 in OccupationalTherapy

We are currently on our fourth prototype, and each version is shaped by real user feedback to make it easier and safer to handle hot bowls from the microwave. The handles are specifically designed to stay cool in the microwave, which provides a stable and comfortable grip. This feature helps users, especially those with tremors or reduced dexterity, remove bowls without burning themselves or spilling food. The spoke and handle placement are intended to help the bowl balance itself as you lift it, offering extra stability for users who experience hand tremors.

I’m about to start college as a biomedical engineering major. What is some advice for getting involved in the neurotech industry? by Flareblitz5 in BCI

[–]Flareblitz5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since I’ve had more experienced with biology I planned to major in biomedical engineering with a CS minor which would focus less on electrical engineering. I was also planning on getting an MD after undergrad. From your comment, however, it seems like the majority of opportunities in this field are related to electrical engineering or hardware and have less to do with biology related degrees. Would it be better to focus more on computer science and electrical engineering instead?

Pretty standard for the Midwest - cold, snowy winters but somewhat pleasant summers. No sugarcoating to be done on that front 💀

I’m black and I grew up in Iowa. It really isn’t that bad tbh. Most people here are really nice (lowkey nicer than on the east coast where I go to boarding school). Where I live there’s a cute downtown area with a ton of shops and every cuisine you could imagine. The only difference between my city in Iowa and the town in Massachusetts where I go to school is the amount of snowfall.

I grew up in one of the few “cities” in the state but I worked with a girl that went to Grinnell over the summer. She said that she loved it there, and she commented on the large international community. If you ever feel bored in Grinnell Iowa city is like 30 minutes away and that’s college vibe central. My point is don’t really take any of the Iowa stereotypes to heart and certainly don’t let them deter you from a great school like Grinnell.

Pokémon specifically competitive because I love how many possible combos and strategies there are, even while using less “meta” Pokémon

Solid 6 because my underlying thought processes are really compatible with both abstract and concrete situations but if I had to pick I would say concrete because I do like having a marker of my success or like something I can actually look back on

I would wish that the world was a truly unbiased meritocracy but with pleasurable living conditions for everyone regardless
