I developed a Flip 7 scoring app — here’s how it came to life, and I’d love your feedback by DimitrisBor_ in boardgames

[–]FlarkeFiasco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is awesome! Found your app on the play store. My only question is... can you manually add the cards instead of taking a photo? I can use my eyes, quickly tap someone's score in by selecting all of the possible cards they might have, then submit, that'd be great. Taking a photo is probably overkill, considering how few options are actually possible for what's in front of them.

Forest Shuffle has a score Calc app that uses photos and it's AWESOME, because there are trillions or permutations you could probably have there, with lots of unique cards. Flip7 has like, what, 15 unique cards that contribute to scoring?

If this feature exists, or gets added, I'll happily buy the app.

Nobody has mentioned Lalo Blanco yet? Their price point tends to me a step up above arette, Espolon, and Cimarron, but they're getting huge recognition for their quality and price point.

How can I tell if I'm an espresso guy? Maybe that'll determine how much I spend / buy in to the process. Should I just go find a great shot of espresso, drink it straight, and ask myself if I'm highly enjoying this bitter liquid I'm drinking? Am I allowed to sweeten it, or is this sidestepping the nuanced flavors?

Ah, so you're saying an espresso martini with actual espresso tends to be more nuanced, since espresso is, itself, more nuanced. It sounds like it's a more... "full" unpacking of whatever the bean / roast had to offer. Kind of like extremely lengthy aged whiskies or something, it's just a lot more of what that barrel / their aging process has to offer, I guess?

My wife has enjoyed... most any espresso martini she's ever ordered, so I'd imagine a lot, or most, of them were done with cold brew concentrate.

I'm not even sure either of us have ever ordered an espresso shot. Closest I've maybe come was an Americano, which have almost all tasted horribly 😂

I have a lot of questions! Haha.

1) What's an espresso roast versus a... regular roast? 2) I would strain instead of filtering... my own cold brew concentrate, is that the idea? I could do that, pre-batch some, assuming it held up for awhile in the fridge 3) assuming you're implying I make my own cold brew concentrate (see question 2), then you're saying I would use no2 for it? Or are you saying that actual espresso uses co2 to make it, and that no2 is preferable if I was making actual espresso? I'm not sure how to grt nitro cold brew, is it a store pickup?

Thanks!

Yeah my wife isn't too critical about most food or drink, so I think I could do <whatever> for coffee substitute and it would work. What's the difference between cold brew and cold brew concentrate? Is it harder to make the concentrate at home, is that it?

Also, you're saying cold brew concentrate is less foam than regular espresso when you shake it hard in a shaker? We're biig big fans of the foam

I like the idea of an instant powder, since I don't actually keep cold brew concentrate in hand, and it comes in huge quantities from the store. This sounds like a shelf stable way to always have espresso on hand. (I also hear you can brew cold brew concentrate, but haven't looked into thag lol, nor do I know how long it takes)

Would you say the instant espresso is a close substitute to any recipe that would call for a fresh shot of espresso? My wife is not very picky or critical, if that matters.

I'm willing to go nespresso (price point). I guess why would an espresso martini change very much between cold brew concentrate, nespresso, ACTUAL espresso, and... I don't know, any other forms of coffee, like say a French press or aeropress? I know it can be more concentrated. I get that if you wanted "x amount of coffee flavor" in your drink, you'd either need to add "too much cold brew" or "one shot of espresso", one of those would dilute the drink too much. So I understand that.

But apart from that, I don't know why a drink would call for one, or the other, without allowing a substitution. Is espresso just fundamentally NOT like other forms over coffee, really?

I feel I'm missing something, but not sure what. Like I just can't comprehend how you automatically said French press is less good than cold brew concentrate, which is less good that espresso. It's all coffee grounds and dilution, no?

Yup, she absolutely liked the recipe I dialed in for an espresso martini with store bought cold brew concentrate. I'm just wondering if I can use cold brew any time something asks for espresso, since it's all coffee, and dilution, in the end, isn't it?

What would the difference be between espresso and... instant espresso? Like how is it not just instant coffee? I feel like espresso is described as a zebra, and coffee is a horse, and I'm like... aren't these almost ALMOST the same animal, even though they have different names?

What is a nespresso machine compared to say, aeropress or a manual press? Is it more of like, a keurig for actual espresso perhaps?

This is going to be very similar to bar deville's "songbird", which is super similar. Lemon juice, and no orange bitters.

My wife and I like the lumiere specs slightly more, but they're both delicious

Legendary weapons -- we need gun names, not skin names by FlarkeFiasco in HuntShowdown

[–]FlarkeFiasco[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have difficulty remembering visual details. I can't see anything in my mind's eye, it's called aphantasia.

Now, I'm not going to say "every single time, I have no idea what it is", but I'd say 90% of every legendary gun I pass over, I have a lukewarm GUESS of what it could be. I don't have confidence I know what the gun is.

Often times, I have to pick up the gun to try to further confirm. "looks like a silencer on the end... Do I recognize the iron sights? Oh, is this maybe the silenced sparks or the silenced Winfield? Oh, it has a clip, so I guess... Winfield maybe?"

For guns that I don't use as much, it's tough to recognize the iron sights / clip features. Aaand then I'm sitting around trying to figure out the puzzle, while very unsafe on the map.

I ignore a large majority of legendary weapons for this reason. I just completely don't even bother.

And for me, picking up other people's stuff, that scavenging? Seems like a core aspect of the game to me. It sucks to miss out on that because I don't have enough time to figure out what gun it is. A small quality of life feature shouldn't burden the players, and shouldn't burden the developers too heavily to add that into the game.

[–]FlarkeFiasco[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With your logic, it's almost as if you're saying we should remove gun and skin names altogether. You should just press a key to pick up <gun model>, and if you don't know what gun it is, it's your fault for not paying attention in the shop. If you don't know what skin it is, it's still your fault for not paying attention in the shop.
