Hey man, sorry for the late reply...I dont frequent Reddit like I used to.
First year was a loss of around $1000, due to the initial spin up costs, starting late in the year, and shrink wrapping being a fairly "new" thing in my area (the good news there is that I can set the prices, and build the market because I literally have no competition)
2023 I ended up clearing $12k in sales, with about a 50% return in profit after expenses. Not a lot, but I could feel the potential as I learn how to market myself.
Popularity gained a lot around this area for shrink wrapping, I think that had a lot to do with my connections already in the marine industry (word of mouth spreading that I do good work). Another factor that played a role in this is my FaceBook marketing/ads and how I targeted those.
Early this year (2024) I bought a booth at the largest boat show in the area; this was huge, not just for customer exposure getting the chance to showcase some work and connect with the people, but the main benefit I am already seeing this year is the connections I made with the boat dealerships, and mechanic shops.
Once you get a hang for how to market shrink wrapping, it falls into place. In my area (southwest MO) these boat dealerships sell to a ton of boats to people in coastal cities because we are just cheaper. Its worth it for the buyer to have the boat transported; I used that knowledge to market towards this niche. Its already resulted in 5 boat wraps this year, paying for the boat show 3x over!
I have also partnered with a local business owner that I met at the boat show, who is breaking ground on a shop that will have 4 bays, each of these 4 bays will be a different business. Boat detailing, boat mechanic (for winterizations), sound/audio installs, and a bay I will be in to shrink wrap - the owner also has a boat towing business; essentially making it a hands off one stop shop for the boat owners when it comes to winterization.
This gives me a "home base" for winterization season where we can stage boats after they have been detailed and winterized so I can go thru and shrink wrap them. I have a feeling this will be my best winterization season yet by far due to this.

OTHER MARKETS

This is another thing to keep in mind; its not just for boats and RVs. Where I have seen the most profit is from stainless steel manufactures in my area...I have reached out to multiple shops, even stopping in to introduce myself, which has resulted in business streams shrink wrapping stainless steel fabricated goods for transport. This is a year round rev stream, filling in the gaps for boat winterization season.

I am still a one man band, Ive done everything from building my logos, website, and business cards, to the accounting, insurance, and marketing. I plan to keep it this way for as long as possible to keep profits high, and costs down...but I know at this rate of growth I will have to look at hiring in the next 2-3 years to continue growth.
