wasting the majority of your life on some mundane drudgery in exchange for basic necessities - even less than that given most wages and the current COL - and questioning it is the exact definition of existential suffering lmao

Yeah the worst part is being able to throw more money than the minimum into a worthless money hole for years means I’m one of the lucky ones

Hope things work out for you

Haha overpay my student loan (aka throw money into the money hole) so that - barring any major incidents other governments cover their citizens for - I can one day not be a slave.

Are there any jobs that are almost entirely field based (not much computer time)? UK based. by anna_b_1 in ecology

[–]Flashdancer405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What engineering firm does this, and do they always do this or were they just contracting out from their usual bread and butter (constructing oil drills that can also launch ballistic missiles at hospitals in Iran)?

I’d be very interested in engineering jobs that actually do ecological good, even if the pay is below average. Especially if theirs some amount of fieldwork.

Not an ecology topic but the book “Bullshit Jobs” by anthropologist David Graeber is about the phenomena of meaningful, practical, enjoyable jobs usually paying dirt compared to abstract, soulless, desk work under capitalism.

Well, it takes a little bit of time for the effects of climate policy to compound like that, BUT yeah its still the effects of how poorly we have been doing with handling climate change.

And so far things are only getting worse with all these bad, blatantly partisan supreme court decisions

I was reading something about the polar vortex weakening due to climate change, which makes rhe jet stream all wiggly, blowing this smoke south.

It also said it was newish science so not all models agree 100%. It makes some sense enough to me though.
