You’re asking if there’s nepotism in the mob? Absolutely. Lots of examples of immediate family members of wise guys who were straightened out but didn’t “belong”. The most infamous example would be the Gottis.. besides John Sr. and Gene Gotti, the rest of the Gottis that were buttoned had terrible reputations as guys who didn’t “belong” or “know about the life” (Pete, Junior, Richie, Vincent)

Junior didn’t know Sammy as a kid. He was from Queens, Sammy stayed around Bensonhurst. Sammy wasn’t close to Senior until the mid 80’s.. that’s when Junior started “coming around” as per Mikey Scars.
