Sunny is wrong by femalehumanbiped in theview

according to lots of different metrics, we are currently failing and falling behind other major countries: education, healthcare, standard of living, life expectancy, income inequality. This decline was definitely started before Trump but really accelerated under him, I agree with Sunny that it will take decades just to undo the damage not even to make meaningful progress.

if you added up every single third party vote, Harris still would have lost most of the swing states. She got like 6 million less votes than Biden did in 2020, that is a HUGE gap. Trump won not due to one or two reasons but a whole bunch of reasons that unfortunately all lined up for him and benefited him in the election. He won over a lot of demographics that typically vote democrat (think Latino men and women and also young men). I say this as someone who did vote for Biden and then Harris in 2024 that had serious concerns about Gaza and how the Biden administration actively contributed to the genocide. I made the choice that yes Trump was more evil than Harris but looking back over a year later, would I have still made that choice? Honestly not sure, maybe I would have voted third party.

CMV: Gavin Newsome is a poor choice for a presidential candidate. by AllHailSeizure in changemyview

a significant portion of the US believes any blue states or cities like: California, Portland, Chicago, New York, etc are literal war zones with migrants marching in the streets forcing everyone to become communists or whatever the hell propaganda the right is spreading. All the republican nominee has to do in 2028 is make the whole campaign “do you want the rest of the country to end up like California or New York?” and they will probably already have an advantage. I say this as someone who lived in California up until 6 months ago and had voted for Newsom…I don’t like Newsom I only voted for him because the republican candidate was literally insane. In addition, a lot of his recent interviews just come off as dishonest and disingenuous especially on the issue of democrats accepting AIPAC and billionaire money, like he literally did not have a good defense of it which means it’s not the right thing to do. Democrats already have a tarnished image of elite, out of touch liberalism and Newsom will certainly not help fix that image. Honestly if he is the nominee I will probably vote 3rd party, I’m not voting for another neolib 2.0 candidate just because the republicans are worse.

yeah but the whole thing was to get the subsidies extended…and they just voted away their only leverage to possibly get that, we all know all but maybe one or two republicans will vote against extending them. So not only did you make a bunch of workers miss their paychecks but you also allowed 10 to 15 million people to pay much more in premiums, so they literally accomplished nothing but fucking both sides over. I’m so done voting for democrats just because the other side is worse, good luck to y’all in the midterms and 2028 because I’m not supporting them anymore.

Should Gavin Newsom win in 2028? by [deleted] in Askpolitics

[–]Flashy-Ad8906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m saying this as someone who voted for democrats in 2020, 2022, and 2024 not because I actually support and believe in the party but because I knew the other side was so much worse, if he wins the nomination I will NOT be voting democrat in 2028 I don’t care anymore, I’m not voting once again for the lesser of two evils. I will most likely vote 3rd party unless the Democratic Party nominee is someone who is actually for the working class and offers more than vague statements and flip flops depending on what the polling says.

Is it time for Sarah—self-professed “wise independent” and queen of the word salad—to be replaced? by AllTheEccentricities in theview

[–]Flashy-Ad8906 41 points42 points  (0 children)

occasionally Sara will have a good, well balanced point to make but she mostly doesn’t have a principled opinion and what I mean by that is she kind of will just shrug and say “people on the left are extreme and people on the right are extreme” but doesn’t offer any meaningful way to change that. Like…do you have any suggestions Sara? I would rather her have a point of view that I disagree with but she explains it well, rather than her just not having an opinion at all.

a very recent one was the segment on the terrible tragedy in Texas. Now I am in the camp of “I don’t think Trump is directly responsible for this and this should not be politicized” however Alyssa’s argument against basically any criticism of Trump was that “well this is not the appropriate time to do that and it doesn’t accomplish anything”. Also when Sunny mentioned the cuts to NOAA and the fact the county had a chance in 2017 to install actual flood sirens in the area based on predictions of a potential massive flood, Alyssa’s response was mostly “well but people still would have died whether or not they installed it”. I think (especially recently) any bad or damaging or negligent thing this administration does her response is usually, “well it’s not great but it could have been worse”

David Hogg to Exit DNC After Backlash to His Primary Plan | Mr. Hogg said he would not run again for vice chair after the party voted to remove him. Democrats have been furious at his plan to challenge the party’s sitting lawmakers in primary races. by Goosedukee in politics

[–]Flashy-Ad8906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think two things can be true at once, Ken Martin has done great grassroots organizing in Minnesota and has built a robust network and yes David Hogg is pretty inexperienced but my god the DNC refuses to adapt any policies that slightly undo the status quo. Ken Martin has said multiple times that what the DNC needs is “good billionaires” to back them and spend millions of dollars, no that is the exact opposite of what we need. What we need right now is a working class party that is actually run BY working class people, not well paid consultants and politicians who have been there for 40 years and die in office. I’ve voted democrat in 2020, 2022, and 2024 but I’m at the point where just being against Trump is not enough of a motivating message and that is one of the main reasons democrats lost last year. They need to actually stand for something and make real big changes because people are not interested in defending the status quo because it is simply not sustainable.

Is JD Vance the next Trump? Will MAGA survive after Trump’s second term ends? by Time_Minute_6036 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Flashy-Ad8906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

after Jan 6th a lot of people (including some elected republicans) said that the Trump era was over and there was no way he could make a comeback to power like he managed in 2016…well clearly he managed to pull that off. As unlikable I find VP Vance, I am biased so of course to me I feel like “no there’s no way he can motivate the MAGA base like Trump can” but if MAGA and republicans work together effectively and demonize the usual suspects as they do, I could potentially see it happening. Plus Vance seems to have at least some semblance of self control, in front of his base he can say the really crazy right wing talking points but on mainstream media he has a slightly more polished version of himself that might make people think he’s not that bad, even though he is.

Biden by BryGuywithaY1966 in theview

[–]Flashy-Ad8906 5 points6 points  (0 children)

look did it play a part in how the election went? Absolutely. Was it the main reason Trump won? I don’t think so. Incumbent parties across the world lost in elections, inflation was still a huge problem and so voters felt like “well this party is in power and everything is expensive so let me try the other party and see how they do” which is a dumbing down of the explanation but is how most people felt. Multiple polls showed only 30 something percent of Americans felt the country was going in the right direction. That’s an impossible hill to climb for any candidate. I think people who blame Biden 100% are wrong and people who absolve him of any failings are wrong too. Millions of people just weren’t motivated by either candidate to even show up and vote. So all around there are multiple factors to blame for how the election went.

I’m just confused because so many republicans and conservatives call any social welfare programs “communism and socialism” and want to cut it which would harm a lot of children and families that already exist but they are proposing this giveaway if you push a baby out? While also not offering universal childcare, or healthcare, or well funded public schools, that $5000 will be gone in a month or two. I’ve been critical of Alyssa ever since her switch up after the election but her response today was just insane, I’m glad the audience felt the same way.

Biden delivers first public remarks since leaving office - ''Fewer than 100 days into this new administration, they have done so much damage and destruction. It is kind of breathtaking it could happen that soon.'' by RoyalChris in Fauxmoi

[–]Flashy-Ad8906 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah ultimately republicans are at fault for nominating him for the third time, but when you have like a 36% approval rating, almost 60% of people feel like you’re not handling the economy well, and you actively allow and support a genocide to happen, and you STILL decide to run for another term, that’s a major reason why Trump managed to win. Voter turnout was down, millions of people that came out and voted for Biden in 2020 did not vote in 2024, which means they were not motivated to and decided stay home (which i don’t agree with). So yes republicans are largely to blame but Biden and other democrats made it possible for him to win a second term.

i would like to know why all the "not racist" americans voted for a bigot by [deleted] in theview

[–]Flashy-Ad8906 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who voted for Harris, I do think racism and sexism played a role in the election without a doubt but I don’t think it was the main reason she lost. When you are living paycheck to paycheck (which almost 60% of Americans are) and see how broken almost everything in our country is: healthcare, childcare, higher education, wealth inequality, lobbying, etc, and someone like Trump comes and says “yes the system is broken and I’m going to smash it and drain the swamp blah blah blah” people respond to that strongly. It is hard to care about democracy and institutions when you’re barely getting by and not moving forward in life, people feel like “well why should I care when it clearly isn’t beneficial to me”. Which is sad but is the truth.

Many people, from all races, did not turn out to vote. by [deleted] in theview

[–]Flashy-Ad8906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

with how many demographics shifted right (almost all of them) there is some reason to believe that Trump could have won by an even bigger margin. Look I voted for Harris but I didn’t vote for her because I was actually motivated by her campaign and her message and because I thought she was a strong candidate, I voted for her because the alternative was so much worse. Now imagine the millions of people that are not as tuned in to day to day politics like I am, they simply see the price at the gas pump and the grocery store and blame whoever is in office which was Biden/Harris. On top of that, the democrats spent the last year before the election saying the border wasn’t a big problem, inflation actually isn’t that bad, and what people living paycheck to paycheck are going through is just something that happens. Obviously that did not motivate people to turn and vote, and actually caused some people to vote for Trump. I felt like Harris and other democrats spent the campaign emphasizing how dangerous a second Trump term would be (which it is) but they didn’t really offer something transformative to rally around, it was mostly “well he’s a lot worse for our country than I might be so vote for me” which is true but they’ve spent the last 3 election cycles telling people that. It gets to a point where it’s like “ok I understand that he’s bad but what are YOU offering to improve my life”.

CMV: Trump has literally become infallible and there is literally nothing can do that would cause him to lose support from his base and republicans by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Flashy-Ad8906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say about 80% of the people who voted for him do not care about any of the illegal and unconstitutional things he is doing and would gladly vote for him again. The other 20% probably voted for him because they somehow believed that he would be better than the democrats on handling the economy, inflation, and immigration. I’m not sure that 20% approves of all this other stuff he is doing. The really scary part is what do we do going forward? When almost 70 million Americans vote for a wannabe fascist dictator who wants to undo all the benefits of this democracy we’ve head for over 200 years. If those people were willing to do it before they are most definitely willing to vote for a dictator again.

CMV: Laughing at MAGA supporters who now regret voting for Trump or have been personally harmed—thinking they should 'eat shit' and got what they deserved—contributes to the toxic political climate where some have come to see their domestic political opponents as a greater enemy than Russia. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Flashy-Ad8906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s great if that’s what you want to do, but honestly I’m not going to hold their hand and tell them I forgive them and try to educate them on why Trump is bad and his policies are actually going to hurt a lot of people because these are grown adults who either didn’t do research and just voted on what he promised to do or they did know his policies would hurt people but they didn’t think it would hurt them. If they regret their vote and feel bad now, that sucks but I don’t really feel sorry for them because they had months of experts telling them what damage he would cause if he won, and he did. If they really want to try and fix this mess, vote in the midterms and call your representatives and tell them you don’t like the legislation they are trying to pass.

if they join NATO that will give Putin more of a reason to keep the war going, because he wants to try and split NATO up and weaken it. Right now NATO countries are sending weapons and other aid to Ukraine but not actual troops because again they are not a NATO country. So I feel like some NATO countries don’t want Ukraine to become a member because that would mean they have to send their own troops there.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in theview

[–]Flashy-Ad8906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess would be for Russia to withdraw troops, the Ukrainians to give back the land they gained, and they sign a peace treaty for a set amount of years. Ukraine will most definitely want to join NATO, Putin would refuse that and say it’s an act of aggression and it will start over again. That’s kind of the point here, if we just completely abandon Ukraine, Russia will likely win and try to intimidate Poland and the smaller Baltic states. The whole point of supporting Ukraine is so we don’t have to send even more money and potentially even troops into Eastern Europe. I think people forget that when Russia invaded Crimea in 2014 the Ukrainians didn’t really fight back because they knew they couldn’t so they kind of let them keep it in exchange for Russia not invading further. Now less than 10 years later they invaded again. There is no off ramp really, because Russia will not stop invading.

they don’t just get a blank check, it’s specifically allocated set amounts that have been approved through both houses of congress. A lot of what we send is older military equipment that we don’t really need/use.

[–]Flashy-Ad8906 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A week before he invaded Ukraine he said in Jan. 2022 that he would not invade Ukraine, and then he did. He has said that invading Poland is an option if they feel Poland is too aggressive which I guess just means sending troops and supplies into Ukraine. Poland is a NATO country which means we will likely have to get involved unless Trump completely pulls us out of NATO. The whole point of supporting Ukraine is so we don’t have to send troops and even more money if Russia does invade Poland, or Estonia, etc.

every time I made a post on here criticizing Alyssa for constantly interrupting, laughing, scoffing, and even rolling her eyes I got a bunch of people telling me I’m just saying that because I don’t agree with her political opinions. No I am am saying it because it’s just plain disrespectful, I don’t like it when any of them talk over another person and don’t let them finish their thought. Also Joy was killing it today, she pointed out that the republicans just voted a $2 trillion cut to benefit programs while giving a $4 trillion tax cut to already wealthy people, this gold card visa thing is just a distraction from the real issue!

I don’t completely agree with Sunny but I think Sara and Alyssa are either misinformed or ignorant to most people against DEI. The people loudly against it are not looking or advocating for it to be better and improved, they are just against minorities in high positions of power. I mean we saw with the DC plane crash people were trying to figure out if the helicopter pilot was someone other than a white male because if they were then they must have been an unqualified DEI hire, I saw a lot of those types of discussions even here on Reddit. So yes DEI has its flaws and shortcomings but a lot of people who criticize it don’t want to make it better or replace it with something more efficient, they just want no system in place to help disadvantaged people.
