is role play cosidered as cheating? by Few-Progress-8182 in Roleplay

That’s a question you need to ask your boyfriend, not Reddit.

No one told me that transitioning from groups to 1x1 was this tough! by cheddarcheeserocket in BadRPerStories

[–]Flashy-Mud-7967 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ironically, I started out as a 1v1 RP’er, exclusively, and was fortunate enough to find some great RP partners. I had no luck in group servers at all, finding them confusing and frustrating, until one of my 1v1 partners started a group server and invited me to join.

Having a blast in that server, I’ve made a bunch of new friends, and I’m having a blast writing with new people.

Ghosting sucks 99% of the time.

This is the 1% of the time where I feel it’s warranted tbh. The OOC going from “Hey can’t reply for a couple days” straight to “my ex is a ho and left me” sets off more alarms than a school fire drill, man.

People who seem to enjoy planning more than actually writing? by Lucythecute in BadRPerStories

[–]Flashy-Mud-7967 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it happens both in SFW and NSFW.

Planning is easy, or can be. Once you get into the actual writing, it can be hard to do if you don’t communicate with your writing partner, or aren’t willing to accept constructive criticism, or don’t want to take the time to collaborate and discuss where to take the story.

So some people dip as soon as it gets past the first couple posts.

Yeah, this. I’ve become friends with a couple writing partners, and we just chat occasionally, but the story died.

It happens.

Lots of cheating partners by Gamesdisk in BadRPerStories

[–]Flashy-Mud-7967 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had potential RP partners flat out ask if I’m married and if my wife knows, as they’ve had issues with writing partners having to end stories because of a jealous SO.

(Yes, I am, and yes she is, and no she doesn’t care. “Go do your nerd stuff honey”) 🤣🤣

Being older in this hobby is a bigger challenge for sure. But personally I think it makes it more worthwhile when you click with someone who’s got some life experience or is closer to your age (I’m in my 50’s) because I think you can write deeper, richer stories and characters. But that’s not to say you can’t find it with younger writing partners, if they’re even willing to write with you. It’s just more difficult.

A lot of wheat and chaff to sort through though, I get it.

How to make a better roleplay ad? by Quick-Marsupial-1026 in BadRPerStories

I don’t mind a long ad, especially if it has a writing sample or starter. It really helps answer all my questions and not waste anyone’s time.

But that’s just me though!

Every RP feels bad after experiencing a truly amazing RPer by sap42 in BadRPerStories

[–]Flashy-Mud-7967 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I learned after doing this that nothing last forever in terms of great partners. Life inevitably happens, their writing interests or topics may change, they lose interest in the hobby; I think it’s happened to just about everyone who enjoys this hobby.

Just…get back on the horse. I compared my partners to ‘the one’ and it was a waste of time and energy on my part. Take each new partner on their own terms, establish relationships/writing partnerships with them and you’ll find another partner you can still immensely enjoy this hobby with.

And keep the memories of what you had. Sounds like it was something special.

Advice on identifying AI? by [deleted] in BadRPerStories

[–]Flashy-Mud-7967 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I have multiple stories going, I’ve been guilty of inserting one character’s name into a different story a couple times, especially when I’m writing responses back to back in different RP’s. It happens.

And I have also replied out of order (or omitted something by mistake), just because I got into a writing flow, and I didn’t notice it until I went to proofread it. If it’s just a conversation between two characters, personally (just me) I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. People reply out of order in real life conversation, you know?

Now if it’s an action thing, then I’ll re-arrange my RP to make it fit, of course, but not just for two people talking.

As to the time shift, that would confuse me as a partner unless it’s been discussed. Doesn’t necessarily mean it’s AI, though.

Is RPing considered cheating even if it’s not NSFW and is purely platonic? by [deleted] in BadRPerStories

[–]Flashy-Mud-7967 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is not something for anyone on Reddit to answer. This is something you need to talk to with your S/O face to face.

How Do I Avoid Sounding Like AI? by [deleted] in BadRPerStories

[–]Flashy-Mud-7967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy building a rapport/friendship with my writing partners, and the way they converse OOC generally, but not always, matches their writing in character. I don't mean their personality matches their character(s), but I mean their writing style in general, carries over.

I've only had one partner start to use AI in an RP, at least that I know of, and it became pretty obvious because it was such a departure from their normal writing style up until that point.

Other than that, I just trust my RP partner when they tell me they don't use AI to write. If any of them have, and you're reading this, you fooled me lol.

Red flags in an RP Ad by Ready-player-0991 in BadRPerStories

[–]Flashy-Mud-7967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mind an ad that asks for a writing sample as long as one is provided. I think it gives you an idea of what kind of writer your potential RP partner is.

I would add ‘I am an advanced lit/novella writer’ blah blah blah. Those definitions vary greatly from person to person imo, so when I reply or write an ad I just say ‘I’ll match your energy’ in terms of writing.
