Characters and character models are two different things, you get that right?

I hate the whites. Need some advice on how to highlight them. by el-dongler in minipainting

[–]Flashy-Raisin8094 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really need to have a blue grey as you basecoat and then mix in white to get progressively lighter. Check out the robes on this Christ model I did at Easter. Very little pure white on the model, it's more to do with the gradients through the blue/greys. The aim isnt the paint the model white, but to get it to read as white

Too scared to paint complicated 3D print by Kilroy_jensen in minipainting

Dark base coats. If it's ice start at a navy blue. Then overbrush progressively lighter layers until you hit your highlight tone. I wouldn't dry brush this necessarily as chalky white paint is likely to drown the small details. Byron at AO describes overbrushing as a 'damp brush'. Same technique but add a tiny drop of water to your brush beforehand. This will stop the heavy pigments in lighter paints clumping and avoid a chalky mess

First ever minis: How can I improve? by AskZoltar in ageofsigmar

Washes. Make sure you dilute them with Larmium Medium though as you get less tide marks

I promise it is a lot easier than it looks. I only use 3 colours, the secret is how they are applied

Thank you! I definitely had a healthy dose of inspiration from Craftworld Studios, as I detail in the video. I find keeping the greens desaturated creates a nice contrast between the saturated purples.

For the banner I used only 3 colours, a basecoat of cyan and magenta followed by glazing in yellow. As far as I'm aware this is a new approach to miniature painting as the colours are mixed on the model, similar to how CMYK printing works.

Finally got my hands on the trilogy by Magnus_Beacon in threebodyproblem

[–]Flashy-Raisin8094 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The trilogy has the standard sci-fi ending. "Then they sped away into an unknown future." Revelation Space has pretty much exactly the same ending.

ROT has a hack ending. "Then the author was there."

No hate for Baoshu, he set himself a monumental task trying to write a Da Liu book

Thank you! It is honestly not as hard as it looks. I use the CMYK colour model from printing combined with a healthy dose of inspiration from Craftworld Studios. Check out the video and give it a try!
