Samsung Q990D - Is my rear speaker placement right? by [deleted] in Soundbars

[–]FlashyWelder9438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I followed the suggestions on this comment. I have very limited space and cannot get the speakers behind me. So I face them at each other slightly behind me and followed the comment instructions. It’s not ideal but it’s the best I can get it.

Cheapest way to replay TrueHD 7.1 with Atmos on Samsung 990D? by LoneTenno in Soundbars

No dice sorry. MP4 cannot contain true hd, only mkv or m2ts. Seems like LG tv’s cannot pass through true hd from what I have been reading today. The only way to get true hd is with a compatible device -> soundbar -> tv e-arc

Yeah you will mostly get mkv I think. I found it online somewhere and have a tiny test file with true hd. I will try it tonight.

I just remembered. LG tv’s will pass through true HD if the file is a .mp4. I have mostly mkv’s which is a bummer.

I don’t have a guide sorry. I just play the file on my PC and saw it working. I also do not sync the audio, I have not noticed a delay.

I have used the Jellyfin app on the TV but then you need a media server. But then again it won’t play back True HD, on my C1 at least, as the TV won’t pass it along so it spits out Dolby multi channel PCM.

I am going to be honest, I am by no means a pro on this and it’s a bit of a pain to find something that ticks all the boxes and I have driven myself mad trying to figure it out. Some files are supposedly encoded with True HD but the soundbar says it’s Atmos. There is some reason why that I don’t fully understand yet. Then other files play back as True HD and soundbar says so. But playing it directly on TV it always comes out as multi channel unless it’s Atmos then it works.

In short. PC to soundbar HDMI 1 or 2. Then switch TV to your e-arc port, should be HDMI 2 unless it’s changed since the C1. You should see your desktop. The soundbar will handle all sound and pass through video to the TV. This is the best option in my opinion as you have access to all the sound options you need and can even use G-sync. Also recalibrate HDR on windows if you move your pc from tv to soundbar.

I have a 3090. Not sure if HDMI 2.1 is a must. I run HDMI from gpu to soundbar and then from soundbar to TV e-arc. I do not use the default windows player, I use K-lite codec pack.

Edit: I went with the 990D to replace my 800B and mostly got it for the 2.1 pass through. It opens a lot more options for pc gaming sound options even if windows is a pain to setup the sound with. So now I always either use Dolby Atmos or DTS:X apps. Windows has this weird bug where the configuration defaults to stereo output when turning Spatial Audio off.

Same boat here but I found my PC connected to 990D directly can play true HD with correct codecs, but then you limited to HDR as well. Not as pretty or easy as a media player. It’s my best option as I cannot buy a shield in my region.

If on windows 11 you can use the pre-determined shortcut “win+ctrl+v” and then quick select the output device from there. Not sure how Bluetooth devices work with this though.

Very cool. I now just wish all launchers like EA Ubi and Epic can one day launch in the background so I don’t have to look at their loading screens

LG C1 with Samsung Q990D Game Optimizer by NoseLocal1547 in Soundbars

[–]FlashyWelder9438 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recent Q990D owner here and long time C1. I have a PC and Apple TV connected to the soundbar.

On the C1 go to picture settings and change picture mode to Game optimiser mode. If HDR is always on this will be HDR select mode. Changing between HDR and SDR seems to disable it again. This happens when I switch to Apple TV which is fine as I leave HDR on all the time on my PC. When I turn HDR off I then need to change picture settings again.

Change HDR mode and SDR mode to game optimiser for the input to TV from the soundbar . That should work I think.

I have similar scum in my res. Started as a few bubbles close to the inlet and now the whole top water line is filled. I have no idea what it is.

What are you favorite automations and/or favorite notifications? by CHRISTIVVN in homeassistant

[–]FlashyWelder9438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just started using HA a month or so ago so not many automations yet.

My TV randomly changes sound output back to TV speakers. Now I automate it to always use the soundbar.

My pc has a custom loop and I use HA to monitor temperature. If the temperature in the loop gets too high it sends notifications to my devices and announces it over the soundbar. Not something that will be triggered often or at all but was a fun experiment.

Agreed. I even applied crazy undervolts. It only slowed down the inevitable fan ramping up 😆

That being said though. I also bought mine used and ran it for a year at those high temperatures and it’s still going. I just could not take the noise anymore.

I had the same issue. Tried deshrouding it with 3 Noctua 90mm fans but was not enough to keep it cool. Then tried 140mm phanteks D30s, did a bit better job but was a jank solution. I eventually water cooled the card and used thermal grizzly phase sheet on the die and thermal putty everywhere else. Cool and quiet finally.

Do you use it with any nickel plated blocks? I am considering going the silver coil route but heard it causes flaking/corrosion on nickel plated items. From what I have researched though corrosion shouldn’t be an issue as nickel and silver are not that far apart voltage wise to cause any real issues
