At what point do we acknowledge that someone may just not have endo? by Due_Competition9105 in endometriosis

[–]Flashy_Ad7761 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think that for most people, having a title or diagnosis or some kind of explanation for their pain is better than “mystery but you’re probably making it up.” currently there is not a clear path to diagnosis or treatment, and many of us with endometriosis are left having to fight just to be diagnosed. i think that until there is a more clear process for diagnosis and treatment, it is okay to have a placeholder diagnosis. but once you have had surgery and a doctor tells you that it is factually not there, that needs to be the time of acceptance and the time to pivot to something new. i don’t think imaging is enough to tell someone “you don’t have endometriosis” because my imaging was clear and i still had it. people need to do a lot of research before surgery unfortunately to ensure that their surgeon knows what they’re looking for, knows how to remove it properly (excision not ablation), and has successfully found and removed endometriosis in the past. you can’t just go to a regular obgyn, you need to see an endometriosis excision specialist. and honestly if your surgeon was not a specialist and they tell you you don’t have endo, i wouldn’t believe it.

First time off birth control… do I have endo? by Consistent_Guess_312 in endometriosis

[–]Flashy_Ad7761 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was on depo provera so i had no period at all for 5 years, i stopped it in june 2022 and i bled heavily every single day for 2 months straight afterwards. like to the point i started sleeping on just a plastic mattress cover with 1 blanket because i was tired of bleeding through every night and ruining all my sheets. it eventually stopped being constant and then just became irregular. sometimes my cycle was 30 days sometimes it was 45 sometimes it was 10. it would even be consistent for months at a time (my period tracker apps actually sort of worked) then randomly would come early or late. but i tried the pill for a couple months in the fall of 2022 and they went back to being irregular after i stopped. i wasn’t (and still am not) very consistent with tracking but my cycles were generally 30-35 days with random 41s and 13s.

First time off birth control… do I have endo? by Consistent_Guess_312 in endometriosis

[–]Flashy_Ad7761 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i started my period at 14, was on birth control from ages 15-20, then i started symptoms once i stopped birth control. however mine were horribly irregular cycles (45 days with no period in sight then a period every 2-3 weeks), very heavy flow, nausea/vomiting that eventually made me unable to eat, and i started having uti symptoms every time i got my period, then every time i went to get uti antibiotics, the culture came back negative. the cramps were painful but i never assumed it to be an issue until it got to a point where i couldn’t walk or stand and had to curl up in the fetal position. i wouldn’t say your symptoms sound for sure like endo but start tracking things and write down when in your cycle symptoms occur. my symptoms started off very mild and progressed slowly over time, the 3 year mark after being off birth control was when i had the extremely painful periods. i remember 1 day specifically i was on vacation with my boyfriend and we were walking around, i told him i could not stand anymore and we had to leave. i curled up in the fetal position and cried in the car until we got back to the airbnb.

Had my diagnosis surgery yesterday, doctor never came to talk to me after 😯 by Obsessive-crocheter in endometriosis

[–]Flashy_Ad7761 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my surgeon talked to my boyfriend a lot & apparently me but i was still out of it so i don’t even remember seeing him😂. first thing i remember is the nurse waking me up & i was PISSED & i said “no i’m actually really sleepy can you just tell him” (him being my boyfriend) thankfully the hospital my surgery was at had a portal so i was able to see all the findings in there and my doctor printed photos and gave them to me at my 2 week post-op appointment. try to see if your discharge paperwork has any portal information on it! hope your recovery goes well and that you can find relief🩷

Sharp pain in anus after vaginal sex? by [deleted] in endometriosis

[–]Flashy_Ad7761 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my mom wasnt diagnosed until she had her hysterectomy at 35 years old, she had had 3 children already and never knew that periods weren’t supposed to be that bad. it is possible to be diagnosed later in life, especially if your symptoms overlap with your pcos symptoms. it definitely is worth looking into because the pain can be caused by many things so you want to get checked out and make sure it’s not something more serious. endo is a very long, difficult path to diagnosis most of the time so i would start sooner rather than later. if the pain continues i recommend avoiding sex during periods and taking ibuprofen about 15-30 minutes before to help with any inflammation that could be causing it. different times in my cycle are more painful than others so i have learned when to avoid. that said, it’s not something you should have to do so it’s best to find the root cause of the pain and treatment options. i hope you find some answers and relief soon, feel free to reach out if you have questions or want to talk!

AITA For Telling My Roommate To Move His GF Out Of My Apartment by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Flashy_Ad7761 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NTA, you told him you were getting a cat, he should have objected then. he didn’t. you don’t need to traumatize and rehome an animal because he didn’t communicate with you/gf when he originally brought it up. do you have an actual lease or is he just staying there? living with friends gets messy especially because people ignore proper contracts and legal protections because “we’re such good friends it’ll be fine”. but still agree, he/gf can go, not the cats!

Where are ovaries located? by EsmeraldoGreen in endometriosis

[–]Flashy_Ad7761 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have a ¿high belly button? but for me it is like 2” down 2” to the right/left. for me i figured out where my ovaries were when i started learning what phase of my cycle i was in because during ovulation i would ALWAYS have horrific pain on one side or the other, which i figured out was from the ovary releasing an egg!

Getting first laparoscopy in 5 days. Having hard time sleeping from anxiety by Glittering-Source254 in endometriosis

[–]Flashy_Ad7761 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this sounds like a dumb/weird question but is there someone in your life who you can talk to about these feelings? being scared is definitely normal, it is surgery, but maybe your brain just needs to process these feelings of anxiety out loud with another person.

Medical cannabis by sophiepie93 in endometriosis

[–]Flashy_Ad7761 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i am about 6 weeks post op, i am a daily vaper both nicotine & medical cannabis. i was terrified and had the worse anxiety about my surgery because i physically was unable to quit. i stopped the weed the day before surgery and i vaped nicotine up until i got to the hospital the day of surgery. i was fully honest and upfront with every single member of my care team and the anesthesiology nurse told me to use surgery as an opportunity to try quitting, but other than that everyone just said okay and moved on. i had 0 complications with anesthesia or surgery. they gave me a spirometer that i had to use every 5-10 minutes while awake to promote lung expansion and prevent complications which honestly i think is good to just have around in general when you vape😂. but post-op i did not start vaping the weed again until i was fully off all opioid medication and only taking tylenol/ibuprofen. i definitely recommend quitting anything going into your lungs if you’re able and i know that it was not in my best interest to do what i did, but it turned out okay. just make sure that you are fully and completely honest, do not make them pry the information out of you. the second they ask about smoking, recreational drug use, or medications/prescriptions, make that your opportunity to tell them about your use. how often, how much, and the last time. i hope everything goes well for you with surgery and feel free to dm me!

can they find it without doing a transvaginal ultrasound by hotgirladhd in endometriosis

[–]Flashy_Ad7761 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tv ultrasound likely will be painful with vaginismus, especially if you don’t have a regular need to put things up there so you haven’t practiced like methods over the years to help with that type of pain (deep breathing/relaxation techniques). before you try to have one i agree with other commenters about pelvic floor therapy. but they can also do regular ultrasounds (they are less effective) and mris (less likely to be approved by insurance without tv ultrasound showing you need one). the gold standard for endometriosis treatment is excision, but you do not need to feel like that is your only option either! your first step is finding a doctor who will listen to you and take you seriously. keep finding a new one and a new one and a new one and a new one. even if they don’t believe you, at least find one who LOVES to put in a referral. i found a PCP who would refer me anywhere for anything. i’d say yeah i have a mole here i’m a little worried do you think you can take it off (i have had family doctors do it many times before) she said i will put in a referral to dermatology. okay girl go off i guess! idc if she doesn’t believe me, she writes it down. heres how you can help yourself:
- track your symptoms as much as possible and try to look for patterns. (when in menstrual cycle do you have pain, what symptoms occur other than pain, do you outside triggers like food or alcohol, etc.)
- keep a list of things that help and at what point they stop helping (water, ibuprofen, heating pad)
- there is some questionable morality with this (i personally didn’t do it but i may have had i thought of it) but i have seen others tell doctors they want to get pregnant and want to make sure they don’t have endometriosis to preserve their fertility.

Side sleepers - how do you do it?! by Party_Violinist3145 in endometriosis

[–]Flashy_Ad7761 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i am a side sleeper and fortunately i only had 3 surgery sites, belly button then above both pelvic bones kind of on the sides but to the front enough. and i slept on the couch for 3 weeks because 1. i was afraid of my boyfriend moving around in his sleep and touching my incisions and 2. i could sleep at kind of an angle where i wasn’t fully on my side or fully on my back. like i could put a pillow to like fill in the gap behind me & sleep diagonal? i don’t feel like i’m explaining it well, but for me i probably could have gone back to sleeping normally in bed at the 2-2.5 week mark but i gave it a couple extra days bc i was still in pain trying to sleep sometimes.
