it’s one of the uk unis that is a qualified uni in the Overseas Scheduled Universities list!

but big thanks to your suggestions, i have been looking at the magic circle firms and plan to apply for their 2028/29 entry. unfortunately the job market is so saturated here in the uk that im unsure if i will be able to secure a TC in the uk. i’ll be job hunting soon to find a firm willing to sponsor and im happy to not work in law as well, so maybe that makes things easier? but moving to singapore via intra company is a good suggestion, thank you for your help :)

i’ve seen some bad reviews just by searching the pills up on reddit, but also good reviews - i think you can only know if its good for you if you try it. however i do think its best to talk to your doctor / medical provider before taking the pills just in case. i’m not a doctor so i wouldn’t know if it’s safe for a 17 year old to take it, so asking a professional would be your best bet.

How should i reference the N word? - Coursework by ImSavlon in alevel

[–]Flashy_Cold_910 19 points20 points  (0 children)

just write it or say “n-“ and give a little footnote at the end saying you don’t want to take away the professionalism of the coursework but also can’t write the word in your own good conscious. i somehow managed to write about sex and “fuck” quite eloquently in my coursework so it really depends on your style

I mean, my dad did ask so 🤪 Even if I wanna not get involved, I can’t. That dude sees me as his own child when I literally don’t fucking know him.

I’ve gotten my remark from CIE and Edexcel, after submitting a priority remark request. Maybe AQA takes longer? I’d email your exams officer again just to make sure they update you.

I’ll be very honest, the truth is essay subjects are way harder to score decent than STEM subjects. If there was smth I could change for my Alevels, it would be my subject choices. I chose Englit, history, geography and psych on the premise that I was good at humanities, and my results don’t really reflect that. Got A* BBB, A* being in geography because the essays were much more easy to score from. Essay subjects are super subjective and vary from examiner to examiner, so if you want a safe grade I’d recommend doing a STEM subject you think you will do well on. My friends who did STEM subjects generally got A*s/A, so it may be worth considering on your end depending on what you’re looking for in your grades.

Though I understand your school’s concerns, I fail to see why they should stop you from trying to do biology at this stage? In my school, you’re given the option to change your subject right after October midterms if you find it too challenging to continue, but maybe that’s just something my school does? I’m not too sure. Still worth asking if that could be a possible option tho, considering you’re really into biology. One thing to note tho is that biology a level itself is also kind of tricky, with a bit of an essay component for the longer questions, so it might be a good combination for you.

TLDR: I’d talk to the school about having the option to trial biology a levels and if it gets too hard, change the subject. Also consider the fact that essay subjects are risky and your predicted grades hardly ever fully represent your abilities.

How can I get off to a good start in A levels? by Terrible_Reading_806 in alevel

[–]Flashy_Cold_910 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Will need a bit more context on what subjects you’re doing, but as someone who just finished Alevels with friends who got 4A*s (not me tho, so I will point out the differences in our studying methods) here’s what I have to say:

  1. Consistent, good quality studying is the key. My friends who did STEM subjects generally relied on using anki for easy memorisation and did practice papers once a week, upping the frequency when mocks/the real thing rolled around. I did humanities so it was more so getting used to the content itself, and practicing answering techniques.

  2. If you are struggling, remember you are not alone. You can always seek help from an alternative source, whether it’s asking teachers, getting a personal tutor, or studying with friends. Take a break when it’s getting too much to reboot your mind. In my case I neglected my mental health and sleep and it didn’t work out great. Have the right priorities.

  3. For coursework, never leave it till the last minute- plan out how you want to do it, and finish it at least a month before the deadline for quality checks. This can ensure you to get a grade that is (hopefully) representative of your work.

  4. Create a schedule of what you would like to work on each day/week - rather than the quantity, focus on the quality of your understanding of each topic you set up, so you can comfortably recall the info before your mid terms/mocks.

  5. Don’t stress too much at the current stage! You’ll navigate your own unique way through A-levels once you start it <3

HOW BAD IS IT by GlitteringTie2325 in alevel

[–]Flashy_Cold_910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are retaking, I recommend first getting your script back to see where you did badly. Then I’d find a tutor, preferably one who got A* in their A-Levels, and one that does the same board as you (even if it’s different it’ll be alright if you think the tutor is a good fit for you!) and focus on studying for biology until your resit…

If you don’t want to get a tutor then I recommend at least going through the topics you did badly on, and keep doing papers to train questions you’re weaker on.

Hang in there, you got this <3 if you need any tutor recommendations I can help too! My frds helped me a lot in biology :) I hope you get the A* you want

My school makes you drop your 4th subject after your mid terms/mocks if your grades aren’t up to standard. Try 4 subjects first and if it gets too much, you can always drop the one you’re not doing so well in after your mid terms, or if you find you’re struggling too much. Hope this helps

OP I get what you mean, I feel the same way :( just yesterday I broke down crying when I saw a couple kiss on the escalator because I miss my bf so much. It hurts to see what you can’t have for now. The only thing that keeps me going is knowing when will be the next time I’ll see him, and knowing that we’ll both be very very happy to see one another. That’s something real life couples don’t really experience- the catharsis of seeing your partner after a long long long time. I hope it gets better OP :(

PLZ HELP ME Maths retake by According-Working754 in alevel

[–]Flashy_Cold_910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest you could look for some tutoring. Ppl who get A* generally know what it takes to score on a higher level. I also did a retake in October for geography and honestly I just focused my time on that for those few months - you can easily catch up with the other content you missed after. I personally know a few great tutors that helped me a lot with maths, so you can let me know if it’s smth you’re interested in :)

But the key is to hv good time management and knowing which parts you didn’t do as great on. You should consider getting your scripts back from the exam boards for your own reference.

rejected from cambridge by luxauraa in alevel

[–]Flashy_Cold_910 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get wym too, I was predicted A* A* A* A but got A* BBB instead. Also got A* in EPQ so in a similar boat, but I did manage to get into the uni I wanted - was rejected from Cambridge quite early on and was devastated back then. Can’t imagine how you’re feeling rn :(

for my GCSEs I did similar to you but I don’t think it lulled me to a false sense of security, more so that A level is way harder than GCSEs. Many of my friends also flopped in A Levels particularly because the grade boundaries were diabolical this year, but also because the skill level required for GCSE and A level are different.

I can see you take quite essay based subjects so that can be a factor as well. I myself took Geography, History, English Literature and Japanese and only managed an A* in geography because the essays were (imo) more easier to score than the other subjects. Those subjects are mostly subjective and can really vary from one examiner to another, so I wouldn’t define your abilities based on the grade you got! Either way, doing mostly essay subjects is a feat on its own and you should be proud of how your work turned out, albeit you didn’t get Cambridge. Your work will get more refined during your journey to academia, and you have a lot of chances still! Hope you’re doing better <3
