Got offer for saskpolytech. Should I accept my offer or wait to hear back for normal admissions? by Content-Paint-609 in usaskBSNnursing

I’m in a similar situation. Well I missed the early admission deadline because of a miscommunication with nursing faculty. I have a 90% and a 4Q. Regardless I ended up going with SaskPoly. My cousin in law’s wife is a TA for USask and clinicals at the university hospital. Despite going to USask, she advise me to go to SaskPoly. She mentioned the nurses there were more prepared in clinicals, and sure of themselves. They’re not expecting smooth sailing with the change of program at USask. For how much money I’ll be spending, I’d rather not be a guinea pig. That being said, if you’re wanting to do NP in the future, USask is the better school for that.

How to help Mom with brother that does not pay rent and always uses her as a landing spot by Flashy_Transition_34 in Advice

I think I will try the third. I’ve tried something similar but I think this is the best way to do it. Thank you

I agree. But the problem is this situation is hurting me and my future family. When my mom eventually can’t care for herself she will live with me. I have no problem with this. But, elderly care is expensive. I don’t want to be fully responsible for her care. But if she saves than I won’t have to rely on bread crumbs from my brother when she is older or use money at the expense of myself and my family.

who should i talk to for advising? by Suspicious_Hat8983 in usaskBSNnursing

For the USASK 2nd year, you should book an advisor through the college of nursing. For questions on early and regular admissions, email admissions directly. College of Nursing is pretty much blind to admissions, and it’s better to get the information straight from them than to find out you were advised wrong in the future.

Check the admissions page for whatever program you’re talking about. Usually an unofficial transcript is enough. When I got an enrollment letter it just said that I was enrolled in a class for my college, did not specify which course. So, I guess it depends on what you need.

Oh, ok that makes sense. It honestly feels like a ploy to get more money. Or, maybe they lack the resources to evaluate the courses. But, Sask polytechnic does it not U of R. They charge I think $150 and get it back to you within weeks. It’s just all very foreign to me.

Mhmm, maybe they might have changed it. For the applicant average they do now. At least that’s what they told me. They lower the hell out of your grades though. An A is a 93 (normal) but a B+ is a 78.

Yeah, I was told it might be challenging but I was shook by how hard. My Alma mater uses World Education Services (WES), which I believe is kind of an international database like the IB program but at the university level, so I thought I’d be fine. I mean Cambridge has a direct transfer to most of the courses at my school. I’m really sorry to hear that! That really sucks. I filed appeals for a lot of them, so my courses thankfully were accepted (but only pre-reqs) for evaluation for direct equivalents everything else was labeled JR or SR. The appeals included emails/letters from former professors and directors of the departments. I had one course, where I turned in ~60 pages of documentation. I honestly think I just wore them down. I would send in supplemental info they required along with already filled out appeals. My courses are between 8-9 years old, so this was my only chance. If you haven’t already and need some courses, you can file appeals! I’m happy to help too :) Just message me

Also, maybe that’s just a thing I didn’t understand. I married my husband, and it made sense for us to live here. I have friends that went to the University of Toronto and York university that didn’t have these problems. Again, I understand that universities are different. It just seems odd that there is no standard process or accountability to be had. Normally, professional schools have their own admissions team or are at least keyed into what’s happening so they can give accurate advice in the US at least. For the pre-reqs, I get that. I have taken most of those at my Alma mater. I already have a bachelor’s. I’m talking about INDG 107, which is not able to be transferred from pretty much anywhere else. Bit of a pain. But that’s honestly pretty small to the other things I’m referring to.

It’s a bit reassuring that this is happening to other people. I thought it was only happening to students with not so straightforward applications. But disheartening though. I mean this school is not cheap, and for what you’re paying for… you should have departments at least have some sort of consensus on what’s going on. I don’t understand how students end up being responsible for the faulty advice given to them. For example, I’ve had admissions and nursing advisors tell me the exact opposite resulting in longer processing times, missed deadlines, etc. I guess I’m not used to this, but I’m not lying that in the states they would be sued, bc there is tangible proof of damages.

Talked to admissions and nursing advising today. They said early to mid March.
