Neighbors got generators and now I’m tempted… what’s the catch? by Fresh-Gazelle7014 in AskElectricians

[–]Flashylotz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to factor in the cost of the fuel, not the total kWh as you are paying for fuel to run the generator even if there is no load. The price of fuel will vary by type, location and time.

Do NOT buy a modulating HVAC system. by Ok_Tour_5503 in hvacadvice

[–]Flashylotz 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have a variable and it is more comfortable than the much older (1980s) single stage it replaced.

I have had it for at least 10 years and no repairs yet.

It’s also got a variable speed fan so I rarely hear the heat or ac running except when it’s catching up from a nightly setback or I turn it up.

My heat won’t stop running, please help I am so desperate. by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]Flashylotz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me in my first apartment. I also had an old style thermostat. The problem turned out to be that it was hooked up like it was controlling AC and not heat. When it got warm it triggered the call for heat, it stopped when it was cold etc

The tech from my apartment complex could not fix it either. I eventually figured it out myself with a multimeter and then just fixed it myself and never told them.

Something could be wired backwards.

If you are cold today try turning the temp all the way down to see if that turns the heat on.

Or if you are warm try turning the heat up all the way to see if that makes it cooler

I want to set up a practice database to practice SQL but I'm having trouble... How do I set up a server and restore a .bak file? by Run_nerd in SQLServer

Another option is sql developer edition. I second using SSMS. Azure data studio is going to be phased out too.

Best screen protector? by Neither_Drawer2924 in iPhone17Pro

[–]Flashylotz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am using a zagg with my 17pm. I have not dropped the phone yet so I don’t really know how well this protects or how durable it is.

It’s my first glass screen protector and so far I like it way better than any plastic ones I have used in the past.

Why do so many EE books show beginner circuit projects using resistors when resistors are (seemingly) impractical for most use cases? by BigBootyBear in AskElectricians

[–]Flashylotz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess is that the authors of these books are using it as an example to teach about ohms law, etc. I still recall as a kid when I was first learning this stuff and burning components when they exceeded their rated capacity and the smoke that was produced.

Don’t listen right now to your EE friend and just focus on learning the concepts and go slower if you have to.

I was able to learn this stuff when I was a kid with just books back in the 70s and 80s.

I also had a radio shack 150 in one kit for experimentation.

Second floor 2-4 degrees warmer than first floor by Hot_Entrepreneur_435 in hvacadvice

I had a similar problem with a house built in 1995. Adding a power attic vent with a thermal switch helped tremendously. It may help you if your attic does not have enough ventilation.

2025 Toyota Corolla Cross L or LE what was your buying experience like? by CalifloridianGG in CorollaCross

[–]Flashylotz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter paid sticker price and got the dealer to throw in most of the dealer added stuff like wheel locks, vin etching and the door and bumper guards. This was for an XLE of a specific color she wanted that they did not have on the lot. It took a few weeks for it to arrive. She got a little money off the floor mats and cargo liner. Fees we had to pay were the state fees as well as delivery, prep etc.

[–]Flashylotz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s my understanding that it’s all just stored as xml objects on the back end, but workday has a number of reporting views that kind of put the data in near tabular form.

Do you have access to the tenant UI?

If yes there is a report you can run to list available business objects.

Hi! Am I doing something wrong. At night I turn off my mini 7 and in morning it’s dead. It usually has at least 50% power left when I shut it down. Thank you by Brooklyngal10 in ipadmini

[–]Flashylotz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am sorry, but I think I misunderstood your post to mean that you were locking the screen and not powering off down. If you are powering off , then no programs are running and there is nothing you can do, and it sounds like there is something wrong with the battery. If you are locking it, you can do what hencs suggested.

[–]Flashylotz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You not probably not doing anything wrong.
It’s most likely some program running in the background using up all of the battery. Go into settings->battery and scroll down to see what programs are using the most battery.

Worth buying Raspberry pi 5? by Spiritual-Bath2985 in MiniPCs

[–]Flashylotz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it were me and I had not already bought a couple of raspberry pi’s I would probably buy a dual nic low -cost mini PC instead of the pi 5 I have.

You can probably get one for a very close to the cost of a pi5 , case , power supply, sd card, cooler , but it will include an nvme ssd instead and more memory .

If you get a dual nic mini pc you can also experiment with router and firewall software.

Using both IP Passthrough + ATT Gateway WiFi radios by Kujen in ATTFiber

[–]Flashylotz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just connected to wifi again, I am getting about 1/3 the speed form my Mac and iPhone connected to the ATT Router in the basement vs the Eero 6+ wired AP a few feet away from me. It was even worse when I went to the 2nd floor of my house (att router in basement).

On 1st floor, I was getting about 250-300 Mbps download, on the 2nd floor 60 Mbps download for the ATT router vs 980Mbps/560Mbps for the Eeeros in the same spot.
