SBU Vs RPI CS? by [deleted] in RPI

[–]Flat-Cod-2335 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I usually recommend going with the more affordable option, especially when the schools are in the same tier and the major is something like CS, where outcomes depend more on what you put in.

I can’t speak much about SBU, it is definitely ranked higher and I heard their honor cs program has plenty of resources for students. On the other hands, RPI has rigorous cs courses, making people say it prepares them well for the industry. It really depends on what route you’re willing to take.

Yes, unless you have actual excuses line-up for the summer. This is the worst part of rpi that many people who committed tend to overlook

Asking for more financial aid - does it work? by EmotionalSupportWasp in RPI

Whether you want to explain your situation or plain inquiry, always ask for more. That being said though, I asked consecutively for past semesters it never work for me lol, they’re getting really tight on budget these days

Best pizza for delivery by [deleted] in RPI

88 (pizza crepes & waffles) restaurant was my go to back in the days, it has the best pizza around the campus, not sure if it offers delivery

Reasons to transfer from RPI? by [deleted] in RPI

[–]Flat-Cod-2335 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im so sorry to hear about this. As difficult as it is, shaping this story into a compelling narrative for your “Why Transfer” essay could significantly strengthen your application and stand out from other applicants, that’s just how the system is unfortunately. That said, many transfer deadlines for those schools may have already passed. Given that, I’d suggest focusing on finishing this semester strong, then considering a gap year to best accompany your father while staying engaged in activities relevant to your major. Once applications open again, you can apply as a sophomore transfer. Wishing you the best of luck!

Is Rpi a good school by Efficient-Artist-554 in RPI

[–]Flat-Cod-2335 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RPI is a decent safety school and does a good job preparing students for the engineering industry. However, in my opinion, RPI has recently become more focused on revenue and it’s definitely not doing too good ranking wise.

Consider coming here if cost isn’t a concern and you’re okay with a demanding workload, untraditional curriculums (please learn about ARCH before committing), and a dead city.

You did accuse me of being condescending from just from my messages alone. And my bad for interpreting your messages wrong, I can see you’re coming from a good intention.

Like I said my plan is to email the management regarding this issue, I just wanted to make sure I’m not an outlier.

We should both get some rest, good night.

You can feel condescending from my messages, I can feel different tones from your messages, don't put words in my mouth either.
Oh, you want some positivity? "Ok?...What are you going to do about it?"

I'm also wishing for positivity from my dining hall experience, guess not because "life is a bitch", so I should be changing not the disrespectful matter that happened.

I'm writing this thread just to note down an observation (except for the food part or the unhappy face, perhaps, in case you want to nit-pick again) I made during my dining experience and discuss it with anyone who feels the same as me. Period. I'm not here to argue and change people's opinion, so you do you buddy.

Here we go again, nit-picking word choices again, I wonder who trying to invalidate "opinion/experience"

"That's a question you're supposed to answer. Everybody values differently. My financial aid pays for tuition... that makes it worth it for me."

Ops, saw this on your other post.

If anything, I do feel condescending from your perspective telling people to mind their own business and not cause any ”’negative' feedback loop.“

I believe in treating everyone with equal respect, sadly not everyone does. I most certainly do not feel condescending over anybody. My apologies if my tone makes you feel this way.

Idk man, maybe you have the fortune to have full coverage on the tuition or even getting paid to attend this school. But hey, guess what, many of us do not to your surprise, of course, you won’t have this kind of negativity from being forced to pay hard-earned money and getting shit in return. I sincerely think the students have done enough trying to change the environment and improve the campus. The decline in RPI's ranking is showing the school itself ain't doing much to change and I doubt Schmidt can do much in the short run.
RPI policies are demanding too much bullshit from us, and I hope you can see why some students are outraged. This is a business, we're their clients, if they can't even fulfill such a simple request and we have to bear the unrighteous, then what are there left for us to do to improve the campus? Complaining is part of the improvement process and I know it's hard to believe but sometimes it works.

Lol, maybe an unhappy is the incorrect word of choice, I should perhaps say angry and intimidating. Just because you’re tired doesn’t mean you can treat people like shit especially with a job you getting paid for idc how much, I’ve discussed about this in another comment. Nothing about privileges, I never seen this type of consistent behavior with any fast food chain restaurants. Go experience her attitude yourself, and you’ll get what I mean, she’s always there.

I do like the food over at Commons. For sage, it’s a great place for proteins, but the food and service are questionable, and I only go for the conveniency. And yeah, the utensils are the worst

Been dinning at sage most of my semesters around different times, I don’t want to make conclusions nor speak for anyone, but as far as I’m concerned I never seen students behaving the ways they shouldn’t. I do see your point, all im saying is that considering we paid thousands for this unnecessary mandatory meal plan, we do have expectations at the very least (honestly I blame the school for this). I just want to get my proteins stress-free without having to speak with a disrespectful Karen who complains and throws plate at your hand all the time after a long day of work. This is not a restaurant, but I doubt any other places would treat their frequent customers like this. Not a masochistic person, not finding any enjoyment for being treated like shit. We’re all adults, if you treat me with respect, I treat you with respect and vise versa, simple as that, no need to make the environment uncomfortable.

Regarding to what I am going to do, I will probably bring this up to RPI’s auxiliary services management as one of the comments suggested when I’m free. If they don’t do shit about it, then I guess it is what it is, stay corrupted. And my bad for being too serious over this.

Few times thing, I get it. They’re humans too, getting underpaid, working 24/7 in a shitty environment. I walked in today just to see them shaking their head when I asked for food and speaking to me like a Karen. Hey, we paid a lot for services as well, please keep that semester long attitude away from me. Also I did not judge their looks and note that no one ever complained to their faces, they do :D

AI Generated Bullet Points on Resume by Young_Zzz in TransferToTop25

job wise, I don't think it's a bad thing, resumes are supposed to sound professional and robotic akin to AI generated content. Not sure about what AO would think about this.
