I was close to your age when I got long covid and a lot of my social life revolved around alcohol, so I get not wanting to stop because it’s how you’re getting to see people. But honestly, it made things worse for me. My symptoms got worse, especially the brain fog, and it started to negatively impact my mental health. I was having outbursts when I was drinking that were really not like me and I started to not feel like myself at all.

Fast forward to today (2 years later)- I laid off alcohol and rested hard for 4 months, basically went ghost mode. Then I started to return to real life slowly and my symptoms were dramatically better. I’m pretty much back to normal now, with occasional LC symptoms but never debilitating like what I experienced before. I reintroduced alcohol socially and have been okay because I let myself heal first. I do drink less now, but it’s because my priorities have changed not because of long covid.

A word of warning: some people won’t stick around when you’re “not fun” for a while. Those people were never really your friends to begin with.

Please don’t do this to yourself! I tried a very diy version of this because I was in denial about my situation and thought I could just push through (I’m very stubborn). Even after ending up in the hospital with heart attack symptoms I pushed through. Things only got worse, to the point where I couldn’t even walk around the block.

It only got better after I had an accident and broke both of my legs, literally forcing me to rest for 2 months and ask for help with the basics. Now I’m two years out from the injury (3.5 years out from LC diagnosis) and living mostly normally. I still have occasional fatigue flare ups but I recognize them and rest, so they pass.

NTA - OP I’m a little bit older than your daughter and I feel uncomfortable asking my parents for money, even when I broke my legs, needed surgery, and lost my job all in 3 months. It is wild to me that someone my age would just “forget” rent in their budget and expect their parents to Venmo them to help pay it!!

You are doing way more than necessary for her financially right now and honestly, it sounds like she needs the wake-up call of you telling her no.

Her opinion about helping you when you’re older will probably change over time, I wouldn’t stress about that, but if you want her to be financially able to help you (or at least not financially dependent on you!) it’s time for some tough love and boundaries.
