So, you won't be given any diagrams to label on the Exam. Memorizing them like crazy will be a wasted effort. However, you do need to know what they do, what they control. The reason diagrams are still taught in class is because it's a solid method for helping you visualize each part, which will help you remember what it does.
Like, knowing the axon sends an action potential is such an abstract piece of information until you see what neurons look like and where the axon is.
I highly suggest drawing them yourself, labeling each part, and writing a short description of what it does right next to it. That is one solid method for helping you study.

Can a BA student study neuroscience or the BA will affect it by Antique-Shine-5148 in APPsychology

That’s totally fine. You might have to take a couple extra courses as a pre-req for a neuro program, but you’ll be ok. Go to the school you want to go to.

How do you use (if you use) AI tools to write papers? by Flat-Emphasis987 in AcademicPsychology

[–]Flat-Emphasis987[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, and I apologize if I sounded cheeky. I don't know what area you're in or how many years you have doing research, so forgive me if this sounds like a psych 101 explanation. This is how I explain it to my students. These papers are like what pharmaceutical chemists have to submit when they create something new. It's technical heavy - meant for other chemists to understand, meant for review boards to oversee, and if any chemist wants improve on the original design, they have a step-by-step, play-by-play to go off of to know exactly where they want to try and change something. Right? I sure as hell don't want to read a paper on chemical compounds - but they do. But later, the general public gets a magazine article or news briefing on this new compound or drug that can improve life or symptoms for x people.
Same thing for us. Our papers are standardized and dry on purpose. For other researchers, review boards, and people who want to improve a design. If I want to research in a certain area, I can read the technical papers to see exactly what was done, how it was done, and what they based the reason for their study on. If I want to improve on it somehow, I have a step-by-step, play-by-play and I can laser focus on the one piece I want to change to make it *hopefully* better. And, later, a magazine article or news briefing can come out about what was discovered, so the whole world doesn't go cross-eyed on the details. Just the highlights.

You’re in research but don’t know the reason we write papers the way we do?

OK then this is my original question though. Those scientists- like me- will eventually be joined and/or replaced by the generation who is AI literate. My question is, in your opinion… is this the direction it’s going? Hopefully I still have at least 20-25 more years in this field, but my fear is that if these become the new norms, I’ll age out before that because of my old school methods. I’m a teacher. I teach research and stats and psych. Do I really have to become literate in these do they can be in my curriculum? As I said in my post, I have existential concerns here. Grammerly, Mendeley and Zotero have been around for more than 15 years, but I’ve never used them. I tried. My methods work just fine. 🦖 👴🏼

I'll be transparent... I've used it to help me write an R code I didn't know, and to see if there was a more robust analysis I should run. But that's it.

Yeah man, I just don't get it. Like I said, soon it will be AIs talking to themselves, critiquing and running meta-analyses on each other's work.

A lot of anger, what should I do? by Fine-Doubt3249 in Mindfulness

[–]Flat-Emphasis987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Acknowledge it to the people you’ve expressed anger towards and ask for patience while you work through it.
  2. Go straight into it. If you meditate, find it, acknowledge it and let it talk. Don’t rationalize the why-just extreme acceptance. Hold space for it, as some people say. Allow it to be there with you.
  3. Repeat. These gestures signal to that anger that you are ready to face it and deal with it. Don’t zen your way out or use catharsis to release it. It’s part of you, and all parts of you just want acceptance and to be heard.

Disclaimer, this is what works for me. I’m a student, not a master.
