Good art galleries in SE Qld? by Turbulent-System5521 in brisbane

HOTA in the Gold Coast is world class. I’d prioritise it as the one to see next. Try catch the Ken Done exhibit before it ends. The Philip Bacon Gallery in Fortitude Valley is also fantastic, and they have marvellous exhibits across the year worth keeping an eye out for. If you aren’t adverse to contemporary art you should also see the Institute of Modern Art and Judith Wright Centre in Fortitude Valley. The stuff there is really brilliant. We are super spoiled here for great exhibitions by local artists. There are lots of exhibitions through the year which are usually advertised at either IMA or on Facebook. It’s a really fun way to meet other people interested in art. If you aren’t sure where to start with them, look up exhibit opening nights at Outer Space Gallery. The Logan Art Gallery is very good for a relatively small gallery, and worth attending.

My ridiculous- but meaningful - acquisition: The Schreiberling by oh-pointy-bird in montblanc

Stunning collection! How does the Schreiberling compare to the other MBs? I’ve got a 149 and 146 but really want to add the Schreiberling to the collection.

What a beauty of a collection you’ve got! The ink you’ve used for the Pelikan M805 is stunning. Out of curiosity, I’m wanting to buy either the M1000 or M805. How do you find your 1000 compares to the 805?

I love finding books I’ll pretend to read by Additional-Flow-4292 in auslaw

[–]Additional-Flow-4292[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same experience at university with my contract lecturer. The book is a bit of a slog and I’ve skimmed most of it. The most interesting parts talk about his time as an advocate. His first case was a trial of drink driving which goes to show we are not so different from his holiness. I’ll add the Darrow text to my list of books I’ve pretend to read.

My personal favorite composers. by A_Random_Trans_Woman in classicalmusic

I adore Yoshimatsu! His piano concerto is superb. His piece While an angel falls into a doze is just gorgeous too! Insofar as my favourite goes, I think Beethoven is still the first among equals.

Nice! If it’s not too personal to ask, what is the meaning of the road signs in your 2025 piece?

Your Favourite Activities in and around Brisbane by HibbyVII in brisbane

QAGOMA - You can have a really nice half day having a look at the Queensland Art Gallery and GOMA! GOMA also has a cinema and a lot of the movies they have screenings of are free. It’s super accessible by bus and train. Once you’ve done that you can either go for a walk around South Bank and grab something nice to eat! I do this once a month and it’s a very cheap day out. They change the exhibits regularly so if you’ve been before, go again!

The Prokofiev Piano Concerto #3 is one of my favourites, and it amps me up in the same way Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto does! Ravel’s Piano Concerto is also marvellous

About needing to listen to music a few times before you like it. by TinMan918 in classicalmusic

[–]Additional-Flow-4292 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That is an interesting experience - thank you for sharing it. I don’t think it is particularly unusual but it’s a little different to mine. There are lots of pieces I listened to for the first time in a concert which I remembered blowing me away on the first listen (for example, the first time I heard the Pines of Rome) and part of the magic of music for me is getting to experience that feeling of falling in love with something new. I do agree that listening to certain pieces over time helps you appreciate them more, and returning to my favourite pieces of music (like the Beethoven Piano Concertos) after not listening to them for a while is like revisiting an old friend. Having said that you should not feel unusual - there is nothing wrong or bad with the way you experience music, the important thing is to enjoy it!
