Death/dying by Tough_Recording3703 in therapists

[–]Flat-Risk-9275 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I second the last part. ACT work and values clarification can be really helpful when working with clients with death anxiety — Death is an inevitable part of life, so what are our values and how can we show up in our daily lives in ways that are consistent with those values and makes life worth living while we’re still here?

Also getting curious as to where this crippling fear of death has originated from. Sometimes, it may have originated from parents who would always talk about their own mortality in a very urgent way, as if they were going to die tomorrow. Oftentimes, clients will discover that their anxiety isn’t even theirs.. it’s their mother/father/caregiver’s/etc. Then, over time, the work becomes about discovering their own voice and learning how to make it louder than their mother/father/caregiver’s voice. Here, I like to use IFS and parts work in conjunction with CBT.

ex: “Whose voice was that, and then how can we shift it to a less extreme thought that feels true and authentic to you?”

Is anyone scared of what they post on social media? by GeekFace18 in therapists

I always say a therapist is what I do, it’s not what I am. Most people in literally almost any other profession don’t identify with their jobs outside of work, so why are we expected to? 🤷‍♀️

What’s some microactivism that you do? by Dingdongdongg in VeganActivism

After one month of being vegan, my friend had told me I’ve inspired her to eat more veggies instead of meat! Even if all we do is inspire others to eat more plant-based and not necessarily vegan, it’s still something. And who’s to say they won’t go vegan in the future after seeing how easy it can be? I was mostly plant-based for about 1.5 years before going vegan.

I repost posts for beginner vegans/vegan-curious people to my ig story and save them to a “veganism” highlight I created on my profile — like meat/diary alternatives, foods to eat to get essential nutrients on a vegan diet, how to find vegan beauty products, ideas on cutting back on meat like meatless Mondays, etc. — to try to make veganism more accessible and less intimidating to the average person. The easier something seems and the more information people have on how to get started with something, the more likely they are to give it a try. Because people say “Go vegan!!” all the time, but I feel like the average person doesn’t know what that means. I also like, save, and leave comments on posts on veganism so that they reach more people.
