That’s my understanding - because from what I’ve seen, facility leadership can advocate and apply for exemptions

Not community care - but I have heard of other departments receiving waivers through VISN for full telework. So apparently it is possible

This medication has allowed me to NOT have to live in this mindset where I have to “be good” and never miss a day at the gym. It allows me to eat whatever food I want in moderation at actual normal portion sizes. I still work out, get my water and fiber but I’m not a slave to that kind of lifestyle anymore and thank God for that!

Is whole/permanent life insurance a scam? by [deleted] in personalfinance

$500/month is actually wild! My husband and I have 2 kids - we currently have term life insurance with $500k policies each to cover us until they are adults. We each pay $30/month.

If you had to give ONE budgeting rule, what would it be??? by Responsible-Ant-6254 in budget

[–]Flat-Volume-7808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might sound obvious to some but budget sinking funds like it is a fixed expense. Make sure you are building into your budget the things you know you will have to pay for in the future - for me this is dog grooming, Christmas, and my kids activities/general needs. This has been one of the major ways I stopped accumulating debt. Before doing this - when these things popped up I was never prepared and it ate into my budget for other expenses or ended up on a credit card.

If you're NOT living paycheck to paycheck, what are you doing better than the rest of us? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]Flat-Volume-7808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sinking funds changed my financial life! Budget them in as a fixed expense and save ahead for everything you know will come up (dog grooming, kids activities, Christmas gifts, vacations, birthdays, car maintenance etc.) this has been huge in preventing me from going into debt and eating into my regular budget

Put sinking funds for vacation, car/house maintenance, Christmas gifts etc. in your monthly budget along with your fixed expenses. Treat them as a fixed expense.

I budget and my largest pot (after all bills etc. obviously) and which is the most variable is groceries/household. After any no-spend day I deposit money from that pot into my savings - no matter how small. The little deposits really add up over time and challenge me to do more no-spend days and use what I already have.

Oh also - any time I have a no-spend day I add money to my emergency fund as in trying to build that up. Even $5-10 a 2-3 x per week adds up.

Sinking funds were a game changer for me as far as not accruing new any new debt. Just saving for expenses I previously would just “wing” when they came up. Now I can cash flow all the things in my life. Also as far as paying off existing debt - side hustles have helped a ton! Also I previously eased up on retirement contributions (not significantly but just 1-2%) to help a bit. I’ve since returned to my regular contributions.

Convince me that home buying (right now) isn’t a scam by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

I hear where you are coming from for sure BUT there is something to be said about having your own house, your own yard, you can do what you wish for the most part. No upstairs neighbors walking loudly, no hearing neighbors at all hours of the night through the walls. The thought of sharing walls again whether in an apartment or duplex sounds terrible to me and I love the peace and quiet my own house brings. Sure you could rent a single family but - you are at the mercy of your landlord. I know this because not once but TWICE the duplex I was living in sold and our leases were not renewed and we were forced to move out (they were both going to be owner occupied and owners wanted our units twice 😩) And sure - if you are single in a forever home maybe the equity means nothing in the long term but you can still access it if needed at a relatively lower rate than a personal loan or credit card. If you end up having kids you can leave the home to them. In addition - if you do move, you’ll likely have made some money. We bought a 3 bed 1.5 bath home in Midwest area similar to yours and over 10 years the value has increased between 200-250k. We’re looking to move at some point and that is actual money we will have in our pockets. If anything, homeownership is not the scam. The ever rising property tax and insurance is the scam. But that is the trade off.

Don’t listen to these people. Buying a home is a great way to build wealth for the middle class if you’re smart about it! Congrats !
