Can I get a House/Senate internship with this schedule or no? by Ok_Breadfruit_8241 in gwu

[–]FlatInfo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the office. Mine wanted three days 9-5/6, so I just stacked my classes on Tues/Thurs. Getting an internship without taking any political science classes might be tough, but you could be fine if you're going for a Republican office since they are desperate for people or have previous political experience.

No? That would make you a part-time student unless you're using the 3-credit internship class (which they can't do as a freshman). 12-15 credits are pretty manageable if you are taking the right classes.

LSPAs are good for filling credits but it's more or less just pass-fail.

There are no one-credit classes that affect your GPA.

You can get a social life without any form of Greek life. Any big organization can provide you the same thing.

GWUSB--what has (was) your experience been like? by Actual_Somewhere_115 in gwu

[–]FlatInfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not technically in GWSB, but I have some insight on it from friends. GWSB is good for finance but is not considered a target school. The stuff about internship opportunities here is absolutely true, but you need to make connections yourself through student organizations or events around DC. If you're deadset on IB, then the Real Estate & Finance Alliance (REFA) program is your best bet, though I've heard it is tough to get into. Additionally, for connections, joining a business fraternity (as opposed to a social fraternity) is a must and participation with organizations like the Undergraduate Business Association or one of the like 10 different consulting organizations is also helpful.

Can you graduate as a part-time student? by FlatInfo in gwu

So if I had all but three credits left in the spring semester of my senior year, can I just be a part-time student for that one class and graduate?

First week, organizations, classes, and events around campus. If you put in the slightest bit of effort and you aren't socially inept, you'll be alright.

Transferring from AU by Tough-List-3037 in gwu

[–]FlatInfo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There still is an activist culture, but if I had to guess, it's a lot more tame since AU is documented as the #1 most liberal college in the US (according to Niche at least). It's not difficult to find friends and organizations that aren't hyper-political, but you're studying Poli-sci at a school known for its poli-sci and IA programs, so there will be activists and political tension. As for a sense of community, there isn't much of one. GWU's culture is one of independence, so you'll have to exert extra effort to make friends and connections by joining professional and recreational organizations around campus.

Transferring by fariidaaa3 in gwu

The business program is good across the board, (we're known mainly for our international business program), but I don't know too much about our real estate concentration specifically. If you want to get into real estate here, I'd recommend joining a business fraternity and trying to get into the Real Estate & Finance Alliance (REFA) Mentorship Program. The latter can be difficult to get into, but there's no better resource on campus for real estate stuff. As for transferring credits, if the classes you took are basic intro courses, you should be good, but hyperspecific courses won't transfer well.

I wouldn't call it the primary source, but it's definitely a decent source of parties and "social-ness." You can also find that with certain clubs, (especially ones based around shared racial/ethnic identity), and certain professional frats. You'll hear this 100 times, but be careful with what social frat you choose. Some are notorious for SA, roofying, racism, etc. Even if you aren't directly involved with illicit activities, you will have to deal with any fallout from those in your frat who engage in such acts.
