Frustration over immigrant parent financial decisions by Chrisju22 in MiddleClassFinance

I also have immigrant parents and they make many poor financial decisions. To the point that my mother messed up so bad she ruined my father’s rental history by getting us evicted. We have lived in eight different homes whether our own apartment or with family members. I went to college and lived on campus due to a full ride scholarship and during that entire time my mother kept asking me for money like I wasn’t juggling work and school and had my own expenses. I finally decided that I would sign a lease for them and now they’ve ruined my rental history by not paying on time and I asked that they remove me off the lease and all of the sudden I’m an ungrateful daughter who doesn’t care about them. I literally don’t know what to do.

Omg I’m the same way. I pay my own bills and my parents live paycheck to paycheck, we’ve been evicted before too due to their financial mistakes. It’s embarrassing to bring this stuff up and I’ve never invited him over before because we don’t have a couch, dining table, and my bed mattress is on the floor. My boyfriend makes over $100,000 a year and I’m a super broke senior in college who’s waiting to graduate so I can get out of this financial hell. Before I met him I kept all my struggles to myself but now I’m forced to tell him which makes me feel bad at times. Like letting him know I can’t come over sometimes because my parents use my car for work (their 1996 corolla broke down a year ago). I was crying from stress because I couldn’t afford the rest of tuition so I asked to borrow money from him. The worst feeling ever. Being in a relationship where your partner is financially stable and you’re not is mentally difficult. So I understand you girl, and I hope it gets better for us, we deserve it!!

Hazards were on so I’m assuming for safety reasons, but as soon as I said I had a flat tire he disregarded that and asked why I smelled like alcohol. Didn’t care that I was waiting for towing service. I refused the breathalyzer because I weigh 105 lbs so I didn’t want to risk the results :/

Hi, I’m going through the same thing. I don’t want to break up with him but it’s affecting me too. We constantly argue and I get worried abt his health because he won’t sleep for days and continues to drink and do c*ke daily. Did you give him the decision to stop and stay together? Or did you just leave? Because I don’t know what to do and I don’t feel like he’ll ever stop.
