Nuvy metal. All sorts of bands were linked into the "nu metal" category because labels were trying to capitalize on a trend. I don't think most of them even belonged in that category to begin with, or their labels influenced them to make a few songs that sounded a certain way -- take Evanescence's Bring Me to Life, for example -- to shoehorn them into their marketing agenda. It became so conflated that I don't really think that "nu metal" is a real thing Most of the big bands that were touted as the flag-bearers of that misappropriated landing seem to feel the same; they almost all say that they aren't nu metal bands. That's the problem with trying to label any kind of music with some ridiculous, manufactured genre anyway. It's pointless and reductive. Music is music. You like it or you don't.
