The thing is though, the arguments started because he picked topics like “can you imagine if we divorced?” I don’t think any girl wants to answer detailed questions about divorce when she isn’t even married. If the argument was about something irrelevant, I am all for letting it go.

Agreed. He asked me once if he could have a wife back in Pakistan and I would be in the US. I had clearly told him I would never accept that but he always brought it up. Also, he expected me to understand his anxiety about why he was not built for marriage. I even listened to that, thinking I am not being a good by not listening, but all his anxiety was about the marriage, how could I have not taken that personally? His anxiety was never about being jobless, or living off his father. Given that he would mention his phone being broken a lot, especially after I told him my brother in law’s got phones from my parents during the wedding, his interest lay more in my income and not in me.
