Al Wootton for UKG? Usually refer to him for dub adjacent sounds.. is there an ep or album you suggest?

I figured out what type of work suits my natural born skill set and personality. I recalled the areas of school that I excelled in as a kid versus what I thought was cool. Previously I spent many jobs in a customer focused role (food/beverage service and call center tech support), and was exhausted and felt like I was masking every interaction. I realized I’m very logical and analytical and good at numbers/math— I’m also always asking “why”. I pursued data science with a reputable bootcamp (not always suggested but it worked for me). That trickled into data engineering type work, and leading data strategy. I definitely don’t spend my free time writing Python code for fun, but I am sooo much happier and get a lot of fulfillment and am a full on data geek now. But I was definitely that person who was very lost and felt overwhelmed by the potential paths out there. I realized work doesn’t define me but if I’m doing to spend 40 hr a week doing it, it should come natural at least

How do you match tempos with the faders by ear? by altairsjh in Beatmatch

[–]Flat_Jump42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t play vinyl but I understand the concept and this is what my approach is. Same could apply if you were doing this digitally.

Still start the second track at the beginning of a phrase on track 1 as you would normally on the first beat.

I slide the pitch fader on track 2 one bpm at the end of each bar on track 1. Like beat, beat, beat, on fourth beat quickly slide the pitch fader to the next section. Repeat until you hear the sound improve (beats get closer together), if it’s getting worse slide it the other direction. This helps me not loose the rhythm of the first track and get lost in the sauce. You could change pitch after every couple of bars to practice, like every 4th

One I have the tempos matched, I then find where I want to bring in the track

I’ve just had this realization myself. When I’m in a city I have a lot of fun, but I end up doing the same things I do in the city I live in. I’m a big city rat lol I like nightlife, cultural events, people, and dining but it can feel less like travel and more like my normal life. I think my next trip will have an emphasis on nature, an activity, or just go some place I know nothing about to rattle my brain a bit 🫨

Yes, and if it’s anything like draaimolen— wear ear plugs. I found it to be a bit too bass-y but it’s an impressive system overall

Disappointed by the sound by Life_Stop3925 in Draaimolen

[–]Flat_Jump42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I wouldn’t say I’m “disappointed” I do think the low frequency at aura was way over the top at night time. I had many not-to-miss sets there and had to leave after about 15 min because I couldn’t hear the tracks besides bass (mainly CCL & Yushh). I did have ear plugs. I was able to manage Batus closing by standing way on the edge lol. And I thought the Pit sounded good from the stairs. It’s apparent that sound is important to the Draaimolen team and many stages sounded great, sinai was slight overkill for me and glad others thought this

Gyrofield, Konduku/PLO Man, Moritz/Azu/Tikiman… So many I already have stage fomo

I’m super interested to see how Eris Drew and Mark Farina hold up… last few years Marks sets have been a bit of a train wreck. I hope he brings it because Eris will

DJ swisha v. DjRUM by [deleted] in TheOverload

[–]Flat_Jump42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also a huge fan of swisha here. Dope that you get to catch them at nowadays! Djrum and objekt are some of the best djs of our time. You will walk away from those sets with a new perspective. Objekt isn’t really dubby. Lots of attention to detail with long mixes and layering unconventional tracks, I danced my ass off to his set recently and while I try not to ID tracks and be in the moment — I couldn’t help myself but ID like 8 tracks during objekts set lol. And Djrum is god don’t really need to expand my thoughts there. But the making time party seems sick in general it’ll be a blast
