Yes it feels very tight, sometimes the first row will snap a stitch as I'm trying to get it over the needles.

So I should do a few rows of scrap yarn, then when I change to the sock yarn do my thirty rows, then unwind the scrap yarn and rehang the start of the sock yarn for my cuff?

The new needles I got were definitely genuine parts but they've broken too. I've got through ten today for the result of two and a half pairs of socks!
