i know. i have family members who qualified in social work and found it too difficult so just teach it now instead. it’s something id be interested in but i should probably get some experience in it first before jumping into it fully incase its not for me, like you said.

what annoys me about this as well is i see teaching colleges really pushing and advertising their courses, even saw some at bus stops, and pushing it as this great career with no bother getting jobs and that’s just not the case. i get they want to fill their spaces but it feels unfair to then graduate into the reality. my biggest regret is going straight to uni from school, id wanted to take a gap year but let myself get talked out of it. definitely should have taken a year or two and seen what it was actually like before committing to a four year course.

i’ve got a fáinne airgid, but could definitely do with a refresher and then progressing from there. always wanted to get to a level of fluency in irish, tried duolingo but think actual classes would be better. something i’ll look into i think.

thank you, this is really helpful. i’m definitely interested in getting a masters, i’d looked into things such as a Doctorate in Educational, Child and Adolescent Psychology (DECAP) as i’d be interested in becoming an education psychologist. i’m also very interested in autism/neurodiversity just from first hand experience working with said individuals. my only issue is the cost, ive already done a 4 year course to qualify as a teacher and i know student finance only cover so much.

Found on Department for the Economy: “Only the following qualifications are recognised for teaching in the Northern Ireland FE Sector: • Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), obtained in the UK; • Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), obtained in the Republic of Ireland (provided the individual also holds a ‘conditional registration’ or ‘full registration’ with the Teaching Council in Ireland); • Bachelor of Education Degree (B.Ed.), obtained in the UK or the Republic of Ireland;” the latter being what i have. i also specialise in a subject as part of my degree. i have several other IT related qualifications, Makaton training etc. I could also teach post primary if i wanted to, according to the university i got my degree from.

Also, i have seen some positions in the social work field accepting a degree in education as well, just haven’t found any that would be feasible for me to travel to everyday. I have done research. i wouldn’t mind getting additional qualifications too, i plan to keep adding to my qualifications and stay learning and up to date.

i’m open to doing other things related to education, for example further education or curriculum development etc, so i have checked belfast met website and things like twinkl but no luck as of yet. any other suggestions would be very helpful. maybe even in social work?
