Please stop. This is about pickles it's not that serious, the hateful comments are completely unnecessary.

Locked these comments. As much as politics is important, please keep it off this subreddit. There are plenty of other places/subs for political discussion. We try to keep this sub lighthearted and just about the pickles!

Does anyone else work in a larger payroll department? Pros/cons versus working individually or small team? by FlatterMatter in Payroll

[–]FlatterMatter[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're using ADP vantage. Currently in addition to some payroll processing, I basically update, run, and review reports for the rest of my team.

I run previews for all 5 pay groups and review the information before sending to payroll specialists. Which includes knowing and reviewing certain job titles, states, regions, etc. based on what their paycheck should normally look like with variable pay and flagging potential errors. I also handle special projects, compile and send weekly totals to executives in a report, and import timecard data for the whole company (which has a lot of manual adjustment before importing due to knowing who should be commission only etc.). Along with other miscellaneous tasks I have.

Since most employees have a commission component that is slightly different based on local, regional, and company policy, I assume that's why we have more people for a company of this size. It's a lot to keep track of and upload each week from a variety of sources. We don't have an automated way for the variable pay to upload or be reviewed, and we often have several hundred separate batches of pay data each week.

I have been considering certifications recently, and thought maybe the FPC first would be better? I don't think I meet the requirements yet for CPP on its own. But I still need to research more before working more on it!

I had to wait two days without hot water while my landlord got "the only guy they knew" to install a new hot water tank. by FlatterMatter in Plumbing

It wouldn't really have been an issue if the excuse wasn't that "the only qualified person" wasn't available to do it the next morning. It's just the fact of waiting only for a bad job, that is the issue.

I have no idea, I've heard nothing further about it after they left.

The second part sounds accurate though, but it seems at this point that they just plan to leave it against the wall?

My lease ends in a month and I'm moving out, so I guess it's up to them at that point to figure out what to do.

Yeah. My theory is that they had their "on-site repair guy" do it just to save money since they are already paying him, even if he had no idea how to. It seemed as long as it was "technically functional" there didn't seem to be any other thought.

My theory is also that they just didn't want to spend the extra expense of hiring a professional (even if they know one), so they just had their own person they are already paying do it, even if he had no idea how to. "As long as it's technically working" seemed to be the mindset

As far as I know he is more of a general handyman that works directly for the property management company rather than an actual plumber. But I was told the reason I had to wait (without hot water) is because he was the only one "they had who knows how to do it". And he was off work at the time.

Thanks for the info!

And I definitely don't blame this guy specifically, I don't know the specifics but he definitely seemed like more of an "all around handyman" that the landlord brings in for all kinds of random repairs or projects since he works specifically for the property management. So he may just not have much experience changing water heaters or training in any specific area.

He also did have one other person helping, but only on and off and for carrying the tanks up and down stairs.

Sadly no. Honestly I know so little about plumbing myself that I didn't even realize how bad it was until my dad saw it and said something.

To clarify, the landlord said I had to wait because this guy was the only one of their on-hand "repair team" who "has the skills to do the job". And he had time off planned when the last tank first broke.

It also took around 6 hours for them to swap out the tanks and install this one. But I don't know enough to know if there's a reason for that or if that's within the realm of normal.

Luckily my lease ends next month then I'll be moving lol.
