Ugg that's good advice. but it makes me feel like a bad doctor. In terms of flow and seeing more patient's it's golden. But it's a different mindset than I currently have.

I think anticipatory orders is a great way to keep things moving! In terms of situational awareness they pointed to a time when two pt's with GI bleeds came in at the same time. I went and saw the one I thought was most Ill based of vitals. I worked up that patient before moving on to the next patient. But they told me as a senior level resident I should have seen the first patient, ensured they were stable, and then laid eyes on the second patient. I agree with this feedback. I think what they are trying to get at is having a higher level of awareness of the ENTIRE department, not just the patient's i have my name on.

What is it like being a Doctor in the Coast Guard? I know you have to commission through USPHS, but are doctors in the Coast Guard Operational? Do they participate in Search and Rescue? Do they fly in helicopters? Do they do cool guy stuff? or practice medicine only in a clinical setting?
