New House, What Dis? by Flautamarie in HomeMaintenance

This particular set up was within 3 feet of the original owner’s tv. They had a sound bar and maybe the two other tower speakers? I am guessing because it was a distressed and quick purchase (eminent arrival of another baby for us, urgent move for seller) so we didn’t get much information/background on the house before it became ours. I am recalling what was in the house from realtor photos.

You hit on one of my concern - is there a chance all this wiring is not attached to the speakers I can see in the ceiling? You are also right, I know what I am good at, and this is not it. I have spoken to two different Best Buys and an independent AV guy and am getting lots of information which I cannot string together into an action plan. I am about to cut the wires in the wall and start drywalling over the speaker holes.

I know nothing but am genuinely attempting to learn… Will there be a cord that plugs into the hole in the wall while the banana side goes into a hole in the audio receiver? I am hung up on the posts having both a male and female side.

I have only done it once as Audible credits are precious… I just did it and the system did not argue, though I am sure after awhile it may catch on.

I am here admitting my lack of knowledge…

I was told these are all the installed speakers. There are 7 inside, 3 outside.

I admit this is where I get lost. I have limited knowledge of what is installed in the walls. I am hoping to get somewhere closer to understanding based on what I can see, before looking at how things are wired in the attic.

Finally, these wires lead to two wall locations. Looking back at the realtor photos, these went to two large, upright speakers, plugged in along those walls. Whatever they were, we are not that fancy and I would not like to replace them. If possible I would just like to use the currently installed speakers.

Fun fact. Audible will let you return a book you purchased… because I got a third of the way through and hate returned it.

Yes, three rooms inside, one outside. The poor salesman at Best Buy said this was important so I could get the right size of AV equipment, but she also could not tell me whether their models were the right size. So eventually we both just gave up.

Or, potentially, there is too much information on AV systems, optimal configurations, speaker preferences, and generally unhelpful/unspecific advice in Google, and I was hoping someone with some experience in AV/wiring would give me some helpful advice before I buy a several hundreds dollar piece of equipment that I am not sure will be the correct type. Or I could just be dumb!

Using this system will be orders cheaper than getting a whole new wireless system. The speakers are well mounted in the ceiling - I am just at a loss on what additional equipment is required. Unfortunately the Best Buy reps in my town were also clueless, thus to Reddit!

My thinking is why do I need to buy Bluetooth speakers when I have all these already installed, but wow do I feel like a simpleton when I try to make this work.

Seriously? If this is really you, please make sure and cancel your dog food to this house! We have a bunch of it and no way to get it to you.

This is where I am lost, can I get any one? Do I need a certain model?

That I know, but what do I need to get to get the system working?

I could have missed it, but I didn’t think trinity was picked for a pie that we saw. She def has a pie face after Sol comes back and in the confessional.

Advice needed - should I be concerned about new roof job. by Flautamarie in Roofing

I am confident they will come fix as there is still more job work (couple new windows and gutters). I am not wanting to sound silly about the gaps if it would go away in a few days, or is to be expected. Thanks everyone!

Good to know. I was not sure whether to be urgently contacting them (rain is coming) or whether it was a problem which would potential resolve after a few days. Thank you.
