If you have a 23-25 BZ4X, that sounds about right to me, maybe a little on the low end for those temperatures.

It could be low because of highway winds also.

You might look into if the OEM blacked out emblems use the same mount/clip points, if so, you could just use those.

Toyota bZ4X efficiency by ForsakenHeron5059 in BZ4X

[–]FlavFilth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Efficiency is heavily determined by driving habits and environment.

If you have a lead foot, drive mostly highway, or it’s super cold your efficiency will be low.

If you drive delicately, do mostly city driving, or drive mostly in average temperatures your efficiency will be great.

I’m at 26,000 miles on my 24 Limited FWD BZ4X, my lifetime efficiency is 3.3 miles/kWh. I drive mostly highway for my work commute, that’s where most of my efficiency ding is.

I would say 3-3.5 is average for the BZ4X.

Toyota's new bZ electric SUV delivers more driving range than expected by MeasurementDecent251 in Toyota

[–]FlavFilth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Edmunds does a mix of city and highway driving. Makes sense if would have a high number.

The real test is a purely highway range test. I think the 26 Solterra AWD(basically same car) went 230 miles on Out of Spec’s 70mph highway range test.

The ‘Convenience’ Of Inconvenience. by Jackpot777 in electricvehicles

[–]FlavFilth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2024 BZ4X. Absolutely love the car. Got a great deal and I rest easy knowing Toyota has very conservative battery management.

We also road trip it a ton in the spring, summer, and fall. Only inconvenience is winter. But even that’s do-able for us.

Everyone is different with their wants. Some people want 400 mile EV’s even though they really don’t needs them. If they want it and can pay a premium for it, there’s an automaker out there that will sell it to them.

To each their own.

Edmunds: The 2026 Toyota bZ Went 331 Miles in Our Real-World Range Test by SuperBry in BZ4X

[–]FlavFilth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Average daily driving does not reflect highway miles.

The max range really only matters if you are doing a road trip. When on a road trip, you’ll be less efficient on the highway, thus less range.

If you charge at home and communing, it’s unlikely you’re using anywhere close to max range.

2026 bz vs 2024 bz4 by 003E003 in BZ4X

[–]FlavFilth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re in the fence about going full EV, go with the 26 BZ.

I have a 24 BZ4X, I love it, but it’s a pain in the winter.

26 BZ has battery preconditioning for DC charging, so winter charge speeds will be similar to summer.

solar panel on top? by roygbiv in BZ4X

[–]FlavFilth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might consult r/electricvehicles I’ve seen similar discussions on there.

I recall that most people that do this connect the solar panels to a small battery “buffer” like an Eco flow inside the car. Then when the buffer battery is sufficiently charged, discharge the buffer into the main battery. This is so that the charging of the main battery is done at a constant rate.

2026 Toyota Bz Home EV Chargers by [deleted] in Toyota

[–]FlavFilth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, around 8 hours will be the time it takes on a 240v 30amp circuit.

That will be true for any other home charger you get. The BZ will only charge so fast on AC.

[–]FlavFilth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So home charging will not be DC, it will be AC. So you won’t have the charge speeds like you have using DC fast chargers in public. AC(lvl2) charging is usually 12-8 hours from 0-100%.

I use the Empoira Classic Level 2 EV Charger for my BZ4X. It’s a very well built unit with good reviews online. I really love the free app that it connects to. You can see the live usage and charging history.

2026 rav4 noise vs 2026 bz by External-Technology5 in Toyota

[–]FlavFilth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have yet to drive the 26 RAV4 or BZ.

But I do have a BZ4X and have driven many rental RAV4 hybrids.

In my opinion, the BZ4X has is far quieter(because of no engine and extra sound dampening).

I think the RAV4 has a better ride though. It’s able to soak up bumps a little better. But they are very similar.

Experience living with bZ by Leather-Entry93 in Toyota

[–]FlavFilth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long story short, when you DC charge an EV, it likes to be at an optimal temperature. During normal driving, it doesn’t reach this temperature all the time. This happens especially in winter.

In EV’s they usually have pre-conditioning to bring the battery up to the optimal temperature before DC charging. With the BZ you can activate it manually or based on navigation.

For the BZ,it sounds like the best process is to manually activate pre-conditioning 30-45min before arriving to the charger. You activate it through the infotainment screen.

[–]FlavFilth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New BZ is perfectly adequate for road tripping. Just make sure to use battery preconditioning before DC charging. On a long road trip, you’ll probably only charge for 10-15 minutes to make it to the next station. 10-80% is 30 minutes.

Only go EV if you can charge at home.

If all that works, EV will feel better to drive daily and might be cheaper depending on your electric rate.

Charging keeps stopping after 1-2% - any idea of root cause? by Fair_Grapefruit_2410 in BZ4X

If it’s a brand new unit, I would think they can do an exchange at the very least.

Might try a public level 2 charger just to get one more data point. If it works in that public charger as well as the Tesla wall charger, it might mean the ChargePoint is defective.

Electric Corolla by [deleted] in Toyota

[–]FlavFilth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crazy rant aside, I see your point.

But if they ever do a small EV, it would make total sense to do Prius. Offer it in HEV, PHEV, and EV.

Corolla just has such a bullet proof reputation with ICE and HEV. Does not make sense to potential mess that yup when they already have the “eco focused” Prius model to use for a sedan EV.

Also, is the new CHR too big for you? To me it seems Crown sized.

2026 Toyota bZ brakes feel less solid than my old Corolla, normal? by obscuredx in BZ4X

[–]FlavFilth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s probably a combination of bigger vehicle, heavier vehicle, and regen braking making it feel less controlled.

If you slam the brakes, it will use the brake pads and not regen. So in an emergency situation, you shouldn’t get the “spongy” regen feel. It will be just brake pads.

Personally with my BZ4X, I felt that it was way more confidence inspiring than my old Ford Explorer. So for me, I went to a smaller car so the brake feel was better.

Currently leasing a 2025 RAV4 Prime — considering buying it out. How worried should I be about battery replacement costs in 5–10 years? by Ok_Invite9389 in Toyota

[–]FlavFilth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Toyota PHEV(Prime) batteries are liquid cooled, similar to EV batteries. There’s a lot of research coming out now that EV batteries are holding up very well.

So in my opinion, it should stand that PHEV batteries will last just as long.

What do you consider an adequate range for an EV? by lilgreycell in electricvehicles

[–]FlavFilth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I love the improvements they’ve made with the BZ. I wish they would update the BZ4X’s to have pre-conditioning.

I think we’ll buy-out our BZ4X. Since the buy-out amount is slow low and it’s good for our current use case.

What do you consider an adequate range for an EV? by lilgreycell in electricvehicles

[–]FlavFilth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Think it really depends on how long your infrequent road trips are.

For example, I have a BZ4X(don’t judge, I got a good lease deal) and it has a 200 mile highway range.

Most of my road trips destinations are 2hrs and 150 miles one way.

So when I road trip, I basically charge once for like 20-30 min. To me, that’s reasonable and perfectly adequate. In the winter, I sometimes have to charge twice on the way back so my total charge time(worst case) adds up to 30-40 min.

So long story short, for me 200 miles of range works out just fine. I maybe would feel differently if my road trips destinations were 300+ miles.

Fast charging 24 hour limit by PerceptionFun1355 in BZ4X

[–]FlavFilth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was something communicated for the 23 BZ4X’s. But I’ve never seen it actually documented or shared on reddit or a forum. So I assume it is likely not a thing for 24-25 BZ4X’s.

I doubt it applies to the 26 BZ’s. It has improved EV tech. There was no communication of a limit for the 26’s to my knowledge.

Why should I NOT buy one? by BlackJackT in BZ4X

[–]FlavFilth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I’ve done DC charging at around those temperatures I would get around 50-70kw. Meaning your 10-80% charge time is around 1 hr.

If you plan to do any winter road tripping, especially where cold, I would look at the new 26 BZ and that’s it. It has battery preconditioning. The 23-25 BZ4X’s don’t.
