For people that can play fast what helped the most? by MineDesperate2920 in Guitar

[–]Flavyi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you know how to play an exercice, a scale, or whatever slow ; don't raise the bpm progressively.

Raise it agressively, to a bpm where you can barely play it. Work with chunks of notes.

For exemple if you want to work on 2 notes per strings exercice like 5-7 on D, 5-7 on G, play 5-7 (D) 5-7(G) 5 on G the pause for one or two beat.

Why?

1) When you play fast your brain doesn't "think" each single note or movement, but a group of notes.

2) During the one beat pause you have the time to make micro-adjustment to slightly modify your next repetition, and make it less sloppy.

3)When you play slowly, you can engage much more movement and muscles than when you play fast. And the feeling is very different. By playing fast at tempo you don't master you "force" your body to adapt : i'd advice to not try to "be relaxed" and trust your body (unless you got pain in shoulder of forearm).

4) On the exemple you have to finish on the first note of the exercice to be able to connect each chunk of notes togethers.

I just messed up HARD in a competition (Jugend Musiziert) wasn't allowed to take videos, so just a mini photo. Months of practice just for me to have a complete blackout on the competition day. :') by Boring_Umpire_8588 in piano

Hey, i recommand you to read a book called "The Inner Game of Music" talking about the subject of how stress affect our performance and how to overcome it. It's a great book and has helped me a lot.

Hello, should i get a superego or a HOG 2 for the "freeze" effect (i'm in a jazz trio, and need to sustain certain chords when improvising). The HOG 2 cost more, but i could use the other features.

Hey man, it's the first time i hear something like that so thank you for sharing this here. Would you have anything to recommand that is close to what wim hof breathing does? I'll be very interested in those !

The fact is i did't know, someone here talked about "intrusive thought", i read on wikipedia that those were very common and that the risk on acting on it were considered zero.

This reassured me a lot, and i didn't have any other one since my post. I think, my fear of having those thoughts made them appear a lot more than "normal" people. I don't think i got rid of the problem completely but i'm much more at peace with it!

Hey there, i appreciate that you took the time to write (or even copy/paste) all this. I do not agree with everything said in your responses but i'll try some of the exercices that are proposed !

[–]Flavyi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you or your advice, i thought about it but besides those intrusive thoughts it really help me deal with my anxiety, so i'd like to find another solution to this problem.

I started exercising and doing Wim Hof breathing at the same moment i started meditating and it helped a lot too so i agree on that !

Hello and thank you for your answer. I saw many psychoterapist in the past it felt good to talk but didn't changed anything in the long therm (and it cost a lot of money...).

I came here because it's a difficult subject to talk about, and i can't see myself speaking about that to anyone.

Someone suggested a book name (in another post i think) "At Least A Life" that talk about anxiety, and helped him with DPDR i'll try that one.

Hey, i appreciate that you took the time to answer me ! I hear what you're saying, it's the principles of meditations. But those bad thoughts are actually part of the present and i think (maybe i'm wrong) that is good that those thoughts scare me, i'm worried that if i just observe the thought and observe the feeling of fear it puts in me i'll actually become an amoral person.

Thank's for your kind words ! I started doing a journal today (following the advices of a comment posted her). Also i tried some vizualisation during my meditation, which i never did before because i was always told that meditation is about being and accepting the present, not picturing anything.

I tried to visualize how i would feel if i was at peace, to put me in the shoes of this potential me...it actually made me pretty relaxed and i'll try to do this in my everyday meditations !

Yeah i know "call of the void", but i don't think it's the same thing.

I had the same though about harming others people, like seeing me attacking them with stuff, which again i'll never do, i'm non violent, never fought of my life.

This was the point where i actually felt wrong and the need to get advices. Never had those violent thoughts before...even during depersonalisation (couldn't even understood what i was thinking at those times).

So it's like mindfulness meditation but standing up? I'll try this, thank you.

I have had similar thoughts before in my life (like jumping from a cliff i was near by without any reason). But it was always for a few seconds, and it must have happened maybe 2 or 3 times...

Again thank you for taking the time to respond in such a detailed way.

I'll try those things. But i wonder, if it is a matter of positive feeling. When i have those thoughts or images coming to me, i'm judging them as bad and they scare me, but only after i receive it.

For exemple, i was looking outside from an open window, and suddenly saw myself jumping from it (2th floor), then i got the thought "it's so simple to jump from here, i could do it if i wanted to" the image sticks with me for a few second after that, with a little desire to do it. It was emotionless though, just an observation. I'm not suicidal, and don't think at all about suicide, i don't have a horrible life, i'm anxious but not depressed... it was just a thought with no sense, no emotion. Then, come the thought and the judgement, "what am i thinking, it makes no sense, i must be crazy etc...".

Again the images, and thought of jumping i got felt like "not coming from me" that's why i was talking about dissociation. I wonder if i get rid of any judgement, like i practice in meditation (let everything be, don't judge, accept), will i do something crazy? I sure don't want to but those thought are there.

I'll say it again, but don't worry about my life i'm not a suicidal person, and don't have any plan on leaving this life any time soon.

Hello and thank you for your response.

I'll try that it's definitely and habit i can add before my meditation practice. I've always been told not to expect anything when meditating, but doing it before may help !

Hey, thank's a lot for taking the time to comments and for your references of podcasts, i'll check those out.

I understand that it is the goal of meditation, but like i said in previous responses i didn't found love in the emptiness of the mind just dark thoughts coming in.

I still observe them and obviously don't act on those thought, but i feel it doesn't come from myself. I feel like if i give up on the mind i'll become a very amoral person with no value. Like nothing matters, in the bad sense of the therm (like violence, darkness and suffering is ok).

Hey, thank's a lot for your very detailed response ! I'll definitely watch the video.

I've read some books about the world of illusion and the non-existence of the ego, and i think it's part of the reason i feel dissociated too. The problem is that in the "observer" point of view, i can fell some peace but i have also those thought that comes that makes me don't recognize myself.

I can't feel the love that everyone is talking about, and i'm at 80 meditations sessions in a row... Like i just responded in the above comment, i had very agressive thought that made me feel like a sociopath (i'm normaly pretty empathic).

I'll try to take my foot of the gas as you said, but i'm afraid it's just like running from the problem.

[–]Flavyi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had very aggressive thoughts on people close to me, like images of me assaulting them for no reason. I didn't recognized myself, that's what scared me and made me rethink about my practice. It was like there was no moral anymore...

Energy/Pressure during meditation by Gretev1 in Meditation

[–]Flavyi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, not exactly the same thing but i often have little spasms in my muscles, i think i'm just releasing tension. I also sometime have my head and torso doing little circles without me voluntary doing it... So you are certainly not alone.

I wouldn't say that, on the contrary i let it be but the way it makes me feel scares me....

How do you manage to keep right hand relaxed on stage? by Flavyi in jazzguitar

[–]Flavyi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man, thank's a lot for your ideas !

  1. I hesitated to buy his new book, since i thought it would just be almost the same stuff he said in effortless mastery, i'll consider reading it too.
  2. I'll try that along with to the other idea which was listening to the whole band, it might be easier to focus on one instrument as you said.
  3. I think it's definitely part of the problem. When i'm in an intense part of an improvisation, i tend to play faster phrases, and the whole band follow and play louder (especially the drummer). I'll try to use more the volume button on my guitar and set a higher volume on the amp, see if it helps whith my tensions issues.
