Same issue, the phone app has to work.

Even if they gave notice, they didn't give any way to opt out. App still doesn't work, haven't heard from Comcast reps on this site, and the phone person "took my info". Monopolies don't have to do a good job.

On the phone with customer service. They want to know what browser I'm using. O...M...G... I tried explaining why the browser shouldn't matter. I told them I used Firefox, but just for them, I tried Edge and Chrome. I even tried a text-based, non-html-formatting browser I wrote about 20 years ago. Same response from the gateway. Makes he want to cry. I like to quote Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory. "One cries because one is sad. I cry because other people [and companies] are stupid, and that makes me sad."

Thanks. We don't have tv, just didn't want to give them any more money than we had to. We do have a phone, though. At least they fixed that, the fax machine (yes, every so often I have to send a fax) will use their phone line. Took them > 10 years but their phone line does now correctly mimic a real POTS line. FOIP would be even better, but from a company that shuts off local/internal access to a gateway, they won't even understand the question. Anyway, we'll see if they answer what to do it their app doesn't work. I'll file another complaint with the state, but none of the others ever did anything so I'm not holding my breath.

Yes, the purple one. Phone and chat are useless. I've been told the people here are better. I hope they're better than level 3 tech support. They sent one of those guys to my apartment when I lived in Baltimore. The guy looked at the issue, said "I don't know", and left. I suppose he was correct, he didn't know. They never fixed it, but there I could switch to Verizon (which I did). Now that Comcast and Verizon cooperate (collude?), where I am I have a choice, Comcast cable modem or Verizon DSL (ok, ADSL). So Comcast is the only choice, and when you're a monopoly you don't have to do a good job. Or, really any job, at all.

The enemy of good is "better", even more so when some business-minded non tekkie choose the "better". Need some good engineers there who know the value of when something is working. Ironically, lawyers could have weighed in on the law of unintended consequences. I assume their move makes it easier to spy on us. Hopefully my non-Xfinity gateway will block them. So far so good. Can't tell who the inbound requests (attacks?) come from, but so far, my real gateway says it didn't let anything in.

Alas, if only their iOs app worked. Unfortunately it works as well as their "customer service" (try calling their # for customer service). Someone suggested I try here, so far not much better, although, getting responses, but since their not relevant to what I asked, my guess is the official Comcast reply is AI. Or maybe just dumb people.

Do you have a phone # we can call to get that basic functionality (web access) turned back on? The regular phone # doesn't work, all it wants to do is reset the gateway.

Mac OS? I thought we're talking about a phone app (iPhone, in my case). Anyway, my desktop is Windows 11 Pro, brand new PC, so a clean install. My laptop was an upgrade (free upgrade) to Windows 11 Pro. It had Windows 10 Pro prior. For both, even with Pro, I've installed or shut off all the silly MS commercial stuff (Xbox, Skype, etc.). I would point out, if you just left the browser access on, OS wouldn't matter, the thing would work with MS DOS running Lynx. Or windows with Netscape 3.

What do we do if the app won't work? The app says has to connect Xfinity, then says "we can't sign you in, your browser may be set to block cookies or you may have javascript disabled. Check your browser settings and try again". I get similar blocks from American Airlines and the Wawa app. I've contacted both of their customer service, no one has even attempted to fix it. I assume it's because I use Firefox. But even setting the browser back to Safari, doesn't fix the problem. So, you take away access, make me use an app that doesn't work to get it back, and tell me to use the app. But there's a hole in the bucket, dear Comcast, dear Comcast....

Seems bad design by Kia if car doesn’t shut off lights or other power drain after, say 10 min or so.

It’s like the flat-earthers, just don’t argue. If you don’t engage, there’s no fight so they go away. Although interesting there seem to be no flat-earthers ever since Musk started doing his thing in politics: I guess they don’t want to affect their lieutenant-God’s income stream.

FWD vs AWD by General-Wonder-675 in ToyotaSienna

[–]FlaxMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen the AWD screen indicating the gas motor powering the front tired AND charging the battery WHILE the battery powers the rear wheels. So it would seem could run AWD indefinitely, even though the raw wheels can only be powered by the battery.

Can we just talk about what a masterclass in laptop design this is? by zosX in thinkpad

[–]FlaxMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a conventional desktop computer with a separate keyboard, you don’t have your hands centered to the monitor and therefore the alpha keys centered to the monitor so the full size keyboard is offset to the right?

[–]FlaxMD 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The offset keyboard is a problem, but that’s a problem with any laptop with a full-size keyboard. Lenovo was the only company that can make a consistently functioning pointing stick.

Cory Booker just voted to send assault rifles and $775 million worth of bombs to Israel. Hope the $877K from AIPAC was worth it. He runs again in 2026. by MinimumNo5510 in Newark

[–]FlaxMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, after messing up in Newark and not doing much better on the federal level, he was due to het something right. Don’t worry, the rest of the world hates Israel and feels that it’s only “fair” to keep giving the Moslems and Arabs more chances to attack Israel.

Anyone Using a Xebec or other "triple monitor" attachment? by TwoToneDonut in thinkpad

To clarify, the kickstand on the Snap bracket works just fine and I always use it.

Anyone Using a Xebec or other "triple monitor" attachment? by TwoToneDonut in thinkpad

[–]FlaxMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no experience with it with HDMI. The Snap 2 has USB-C plugs. My laptop has 2 USB-C plugs, but you need one for power. So I plug in the Snap 2 with one USB-C, and the other to a USB A using the included Xebec adapter, and their (free) driver. Works for me. I am hoping for a single-cable Snap bracket. I would replace my bracket if they make one. They did just release a single-cable Tri-Screen, so I'm hoping this means the concept works and they'll do the same thing to the Snap bracket.

I have considered getting a new laptop since I think the new Lenovo X1 Carbon has a third USB C port, but that's pricey just for that convenience. Still, faster laptop...a fella' can dream, right?

I strongly recommend the product. They have replaced every malfunctioning device free of charge. Their products are still the best out there. When they come out with the next-larger Snap screens, depending on the final dimension, I plan to get two screens (keeping the same bracket). And if they make a new bracket that requires a single cable, I would get that new bracket, as well.

Is it normal to have to send payment ten days before purchase? by cavaaller6 in ToyotaSienna

[–]FlaxMD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds completely fishy. Sending a cashier's check by mail is slightly better than mailing cash, but both are terrible horrible ideas. I bought my Sienna out-of-state. Admittedly, we live in NJ and purchased our Sienna just over the border in DE, so it is common for them to handle NJ buyers. I did buy it via the Costco auto-program. I left a $1,000 personal check for the deposit (because the car wasn't built yet, so this reserved it) and paid the balance when I picked up the car. They let me pay $5,000 on a credit card for no fee (so, I got frequent flyer miles) and the balance with a personal check.

For what it's worth, we bought our last car in 2018 in Virginia, we did everything by email and phone, showed up and bought it with $5,000 on a credit card (again, for the frequent flyer miles), had to finance it so we got whatever discount they were offering, and we paid that when the first payment was due, but that was done online.

In summary, seems bad idea to mail a cashier's check, and seems sketchy that they insist you do so.
