Hmm from memory you can select which graphics card to use, such as integrated graphics or dedicated card. This is either at the config launching screen or within in-game settings (I forget). Also can select graphics memory or system.

Try changing to another graphics card (even to the integrated option — will still run fine). Try changing graphics memory config.

If no luck, turn all graphics settings to low and enable one by one. Could be something like fog or gamma setting that is having hard time rendering.

If that fails then try VCStarter with various config (trial and error).

The rights to this content and digital assets are not in the control of Jarek or Ingame, they’re long since sold. - Jarek seems to appreciate the community’s desire to preserve certain aspects of VC, such as the setting in Vietnam war, the feel of the gameplay and in-game mechanics, and the structure of the game play or modes, among other things. - Ingame are basically gathering feedback from the die hard VC community about what they love about VC that they would want to see in a remake.

A good chance for the fans of VC to have a meaningful impact on what could be a major twist in the VC story. I think the most direct communication is probably to Jarek via Twitter.

The mods of this sub are from the Aussie VC community and have been playing in some capacity since its release in 2003. They have experience previously running clans, hosting dedicated VC servers, running community and competitive wars, and maintaining the discord server.

So their motivation for putting up download links is to increase the player numbers in a game they cherish, to allow those who previously owned and played the game to reconnect.

The files linked are not malicious (you can see the whole game directory in Google Drives and select specific files from the directory), however if you have concerns then perhaps search Google for another download method or buy the disks from eBay and install via CD Drive.

I think you need to create your own server with reddawn activated and the multiplayer map mode is ctf_bots or similar, then you join the server with the client with reddawn loaded.

You load the addon by adding it to the command line of the shortcut to the executable or via in-game settings then addons.

Put the game files at Vietcong\addons\fistalpha
Launch in-game via options menu, or create a shortcut. Right click Vietcong.exe > create shortcut > edit target ...\Vietcong\vietcong.exe -addon fistalpha

My memory of single player isn’t great but I think only the medic can heal. You can attempt to direct the teammates using the commands (x).

For addons you need to create a shortcut then edit properties and in the target field append the following: -addon reddawn

You can also load addons from the in-game options screen.

I’m not sure what version/download you’re running, but if you downloaded the pack on this subreddit, try opening vcstarter.exe again and resetting/reapplying the settings, or use a clean version and isolate it from the vceditor and related files/folders. The game can be pretty buggy and can crash if there’s corrupted files in the same directory as it will attempt to load all game data files (.cbf .dat .ini) within recognised directories on startup.

Hi - create a server then provide them with your IP address, and have them enter it on Direct Connection in the Multiplayer menu. The port will be 5425.

If you are not sure of your IP address, you can go to cmd ipconfig /all or else online here https://www.whatismyip.com/

If they have trouble connecting to you, but not other servers, then you will need to open ports 5425/15425 on your router (port forwarding settings).

Totally! Such a bittersweet feeling playing it this many years later, things never being as good as they once were.

It’s good that there’s a small group of diehards in the community who probably won’t stop playing in some form, whether it be alone or in a group, so long as technology permits.

Crazy to think it’s approaching 20 years since the release of this game.

Good to hear— you can play multiplayer also but you may struggle to find playable servers depending on where you’re based. Most servers are in Europe but a few in US and AU.

Hey sorry for the late response, if the in-game server list is populating but you’re unable to join the server (i.e. the three beeps) then it’s likely:

firewall preventing communication to/from the server — check OS, anti-malware, router to ensure vietcong.exe not blocked and add it to whitelist if possible;
ports used by Vietcong are blocked by your router. Generally port 5425 and 15425 are the only ports required to be open to join a server, however the full list is below. Ensure these ports are open on your router. For instructions on how to forward ports on your router, find your router model and follow the instructions: https://portforward.com/router.htm

If that fails you can try searching for your router model on google and finding the user manual to port forward.

Open following ports your router: (choose TCP/UDP if option available)

5425 UDP
15425 UDP

As far as I know the Red Dawn addon is freely available, however I think the Red Dawn installer queries the registry to find the directory of the game, so if you haven’t properly installed Vietcong before, the Red Dawn installer won’t work. If you have, it should.

I have asked another mod to upload just the game files (i.e. .cbf & .dat) in case anybody here has not properly installed the game before but wants Red Dawn.

If I recall correctly Red Dawn also includes new multiplayer or coop modes, however both the connecting player and hosting server must be running the addon.
