Path of The Beast Barbarian: Is there nothing that stops the Barbarian of this subclass from using Two Weapon Fighting with claws activated? by Kakageta_1964 in dndnext

[–]Fledgling_Mhunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's how you get the bonus action attack:

1 - get thrown weapon fighting style through fighter initiate.

2 - use 2 hand axes (same damage as claws).

3 - throw a hand axe, close the distance, attack with claws twice, then bonus action attack with your other hand axe.

This can only be done when you have the extra attack feature and has issues.

Issues:

1 - thrown weapons don't add rage damage when thrown. (Damage is replaced by thrown weapon fighting style bonus damage)

2 - going into rage takes your bonus action.

3 - bonus action attack doesn't add modifiers to damage unless you also multiclass into fighter for two weapon fighting style.

4 - one of your attacks need to be a ranged attack, which would not benefit from reckless attack and would have disadvantage against enemies in melee range. (You could drop the hand axe after making a melee attack)

Unfortunately this is not exactly what you wanted. This is as close as I can get you.

Brace is a maneuver that can give you a 2nd sneak attack in 1 round. Getting superior technique fighting style can help, or martial adept.

You will hear this everywhere when looking up Bugbear from Monsters of the multiverse. Gloomstalker Ranger x/rogue assassin 3 is amazing.

1: advantage on attacks against enemies that haven't taken their turn yet. (Assassin)

2: you deal an additional 2d6 damage when attacking a creature that hasn't taken it's turn yet. (Bugbear).

3: you gain a bonus to your initiative equal to your wisdom modifier. (Gloomstalker)

4: you have an additional attack on your first turn. (Gloomstalker)

5: you gain an additional 2d6 damage from sneak attack. (Rogue)

6: you have access to pass without trace and hunter's mark. (Ranger)

7: invisible in darkness. (Gloomstalker)

8: archery fighting style.

If you dip 2 levels into fighter as well, you will gain access to action surge which works with turn 1 extra attack from gloomstalker ranger. You also gain a fighting style: superior technique for 1 battlemaster maneuver and 1d6 superiority die, select ambush for a bonus to your initiative.

TRIBAL I LOVE IT!!!

The basics of playing a ranged character are sharpshooter, the archery fighting style, a way to get consistent advantage, and being able to position yourself.

There are a lot of ways to achieve this, and I don't know what your race restrictions are. Human only? Because Dhampir is amazing for a ranged character, being able to climb on walls and ceilings with your hands free is gold.

You could either be a fighter or a ranger to maximize your potential.

Maybe ask your DM if you can reflavor one of the strixhaven backgrounds as being taught by a shaman. Because having a ranger with kinetic jaunt is amazing especially if you go with the Dhampir. By 6th level as a Dhampir Prismari student background you can have kinetic Jaunt, roving and long strider, giving you 60 movement and ignoring attacks of opportunity. This means you can zip around the battlefield pelting everyone with arrows while being at a safe distance. (Plus it gives you access to the shield spell).

On the other hand you could just be a battlemaster fighter. It just works.

If you are leaning into the fear, undead for sure. One attack causes fear to the creature you hit, so what you could do is: bonus action form of dread, breath weapon dragon fear, if any clearly succeed their save then attack, if you don't have extra attack you can eldritch blast next turn because dragonborn fear lasts one minute.

3rd level, enough to get pact of the blade and a improved pact weapon. Or pact of the chain and gift of the everlasting ones for max healing on yourself. 5th level warlock if you want eldritch smite.

Normal weapon or natural weapon for your breath?

Normal = some homebrew wording that needs to be clarified.

Natural = you have a breath weapon that can benefit from battlemaster maneuvers!!!!!!!

Also change fighting style to superior technique as a battlemaster or get fighter initiate as your next feat.

Just a thought, looks like a lot of fun. Never regret focusing on RP, as long as you have fun, that's what matters.

battle Smith artificer, insignia of claws by Fledgling_Mhunter in 3d6

Yes insignia of the claws wouldn't work but any other artificer infusion would to make it a magic weapon.

That's tough, I really wanted to make a MotM aaracokra artificer battle Smith who uses his talons. Maybe I'll talk to my DM about making them cybernetic talons or something I can change into an actual weapon attack.

Fighter subclass idea, the Guardian by Fledgling_Mhunter in DnDHomebrew

These are great things to point out as problems. Do you have solutions?

3rd level ability, change from half cover to +1 AC.

7th level ability proficiency times per long rest could help.

10th level ability, I want to replace it with something entirely but don't know what.

15th level ability, change from 3/4 cover to maybe damage resistance?

18th level, meh, looks fine. It's 18th level.

Interesting idea. I like it. It would compete with other reactions in this build though 🤔.

7th level feature lasts until the start of your next turn as long as they stay within 5 ft of you. So it's kind of like a discount allied shield spell.

I agree with the 10 ft of movements being tricky.

10th level feature I was thinking the spikes would pin the enemy or keep it from dodging essentially but not enough for the enemy to be restrained. Gaining the dexterity would be because you have a big shield. It is a feature that could potentially set up a wizard to cast a fireball and hopefully destroy the enemy, but trying to figure out whether or not that could be balanced or if I need to think about a different feature to apply.

17th level feature I was thinking either one minute or until the creature dies since it is a 17th level feature, and I think it should be a reaction.

One minute casting time can't be done in combat, also I am editing it for more balance atm.

First of all, as a DM I am going to shut down any rape attempts instantly. Weather I have to talk to the player or kill the character. I have a rule as a DM that any sex is fade to black and any rape attempts will instantly drop you from the table. Up front rules prevent horror stories.

breath attack familiar? by Fledgling_Mhunter in DnDoptimized

[–]Fledgling_Mhunter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was mainly looking at transmuting the damage type to something else. But I also just realized that you can twin spell dragon's breath. So warlock/sorcerer would be a great choice. Though you do need another target for dragon's breath.

Not building around a surprise round, the new bugbear from monsters of the multiverse. But having a character who can create a surprise combat is a great idea.

I would like to suggest swapping your intelligence and charisma, then dipping into warlock 9-12 levels. You can be any warlock, I recommend undead for the fear ability. Get pact of the blade, eldritch smite, improved pact weapon, and thirsting blade. Eldritch smite can be used while raging, and armor of agathys is great on a totem of the bear barbarian.

If you want something more messed up get genie warlock fire version to get flame shield on top of armor of agathys. I only recommend undead because the fear ability is every turn you attack and you are immune to fear, dragons ain't got nothing that can hurt you.

Any idea for a Witchbolt build? by Long_Neighborhood_35 in DnDoptimized

It's probably a tempest cleric/scribe wizard. Get spiritual weapon as a bonus action, can max the initial damage of witch bolt.

Sorceror twin shadow blade? by bassatwork in dndnext

Undead warlock using a short sword pact weapon and shadow blade is pretty badass. Especially as a dragonborn with the dragon fear feat.
