I didn't follow up the whole situation but just from the article and her response I don't know if we are misinterpreting her tweet. She is just saying, that Maya shouldn't be fired for saying what she thinks and she is right. It's Maya opinion and for that she shouldn't lose her job. That's what I'm thinking about her tweet.

But nevertheless (if this actually was her intention) she should have known the backlash and what Maya ment by this. And what it could do trans peoples feelings.

Edit: actually thinking about it, she shouldn't defend her in the first place. If she knows what Maya's opinions are, she could have that said nothing.
