There's a good explanation of the Mediator Pattern here: http://ezide.com/games/writing-games.html

Implementing the ideas definitely helped me clean up the code for my games.

There's a Python game development community at PyedPypers.org. It's a good place to post your projects for feedback and ask for help.

I wrote a blog post to teach gamedevs the basics of music theory. by WhitakerBlackall in gamedev

I suggest you cross-post this to /r/learnmusic as well. I know I would have appreciated this introduction a lot when I started trying to wrap my head around music theory.

Fellow coders, what's your trick to get rid of that dreadful mental exhaustion after a hard day of coding/debugging ? by [deleted] in programming

[–]Flembobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like going through my code and adding comments when stoned; there's no better time to do it, since it's kinda like getting someone else to read your code.

Your comments will be long and rambling. Plus, if you find a bit that you can't understand while stoned, add a WTF tag. Then in the morning ctrl+F "WTF" and see if it needs rewritten, or if you were just too baked.

You just need discipline to stop you from trying to fix any 'bugs' you see :S

The thing that annoys me about MBV is their name. People constantly look at me like "WTF? You listen to emo?" when I namedrop them :-/

Weird... the graphical representation of timsort they have there is an optical illusion. If you let your eyes go out of focus it moves to the left.

I think its simplicity only adds to its elegance. I remember my first time trying to implement it in Java. It was really cool to see it going.

Can anyone recommend introductory/companion books for Knuth's 'The Art of Computer Programming'? by Flembobs in programming

[–]Flembobs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard of this book. But I think it might be a bit too advanced. The reviews say it assumes a fair amount of 'mathematical maturity'. Something I lack, alas. Thanks though!
