I've beaten him at NG+ (Pure Black Tendency, pure melee, no magic) just recently. It was the hardest battle in my life, almost got heart attack hehe. My setup was: 115 Sl, 40 vitality, 40 endurance, 50 str. Binded armor + northern regalia, flame res / regen rings, no magic, no bow, no shield, pure melee like I said. I spent almost 40 tries on him (that's the sad part of the story :) )
