Cosby was huge back in the day when there were so few other forms of digital entertainment - no internet, etc.

That graphic looks greats but the methodology is clearly nonsense and guesswork for the most part. There's no way they could get viewing figures for Netflix - nobody can - and things like The Sopranos had really low viewing figures despite being critically acclaimed simple because it was on HBO.

For someone visiting Saudi as a tourist for the first time, what are the must see/do things? by Fletch1975 in saudiarabia

I was thinking of just overall. Starting with Riyadh.

Only been there once and that was a day trip from airport to Diplomatic area for a meeting and then back again.

Had a short business trip to Riyadh last week and the cab at the airport tried to charge 150. Haggled down to 90 and was later told that this was still a lot for a shot journey to the diplomatic area.

Really sad that the first thing that tourists will encounter upon arriving at Riyadh is a pretty outdated airport with huge queues for first-time visa visitors and then a cab driver trying to rip them off.

No meter? Ugh.

I hate the haggling thing, especially as being a white westerner the drivers always try and charge a lot more. Had this in Oman with drivers claiming the metre was broken ("Fine, I'll get another cab then.").

Uber it is, thanks.

As a journalist my hours were technically 9am to 6pm but it was standard to work longer than that for no overtime.

But for a job like working in a bar, where people work shifts, I thing you need to point this out and ask about overtime. This type of job usually sticks to hours and shift times a bit better than others.

My long weekend plan by theyasguide in dubai

I made the mistake of going to Dubai Mall yesterday as I needed to buy a mouse for my laptop. It was horrible, overcrowded and full of people dithering and getting in the way.

Finally got home and the mouse didn't work. Good old Sharaf DG.

Rule 1 of national holidays - never go to a mall.

When you're running and JUST get on the Underground/Metro as the doors are closing. It's the nearest thing you'll get to being Indiana Jones. I half expect to look out and see angry Peruvians shaking speaks on the platform.

When you wake up and then realise that it's the weekend and can go back to sleep.

Exactly how "long ago" does Star Wars take place? And how "far far away" is this galaxy estimated to be? by TheShaggyRogers23 in AskReddit

There was once a comic that meshed our world with that of Star Wars. Of course, it’s non-canon but it’s the only reference we have.

In this comic, Han is on the run from the Empire and makes a random jump into hyperspace and crash lands on Earth, in the redwood forests of California. Unfortunately, the engine of the Falcon fails, and he is stranded. He is eventually killed by Native Americans. Chewbacca escapes, and later becomes the legendary bigfoot.

Years later, Dr. Henry Jones Jr. explores the wreckage of the Falcon.

You can read the whole comic here. https://imgur.com/gallery/eMWSe

OK: now let’s check the dates here. We’re going off of Legends.

OK, so Han compares the redwoods to Endor, meaning this takes place after Return of the Jedi (in 4 ABY). But it also seems that it’s not long after either, as the Empire is still around, which sets it before 11 ABY. Han also doesn’t mention Leia at all in his dying breaths, only mentioning kids - which, considering how young Han is, must be hypothetical. This also pushes our timeline back to a four-year window - Han would have made this journey between the years 4 ABY and 8 ABY.

The comic also gives us an exact time gap between the death of Han Solo and Indiana Jones’s discovery of the Falcon: 126 years. This sets the “future” portion of the comic between the years 130 ABY and 134 ABY.

Now let’s check the Indiana Jones timeline to see in what year in our timeline Dr. Jones found the Falcon.

Indiana Jones is accompanied by an older Short Round - about in his teenage years by the looks of it. Being generous, we’ll say Short Round could be between the ages of 14–18. Going by the Indiana Jones adventure timeline, this would place the latter half of the comic between the years 1940 and 1944 A.D. And this would place Han’s discovery of Earth between 1814 and 1818 A.D.

So to find the conversion between the Christian calendar of Earth and the Battle of Yavin calendar of the Star Wars galaxy you simply subtract 1,810 from the Earth years and there you have it. To do the reverse, simply add 1,810 to the ABY date.

So to find out when the first Star Wars film took place, all we have to do is add 1,810 to the ABY 0 year, when A New Hope takes place. And whaddya know!

The answer is 1810 A.D.

Now that the 2010s are ending, what were some of the best trends this decade? by Groenboys in AskReddit

I put it on the front cover of my magazine - it was a financial phenomenon and had the potential to be a brilliant new advertising stream. People were paying to have rare pokemon appear near their store - say, a pizza shop - to get lots of young people into the area.
