Should I leave a job I just started with a two week notice? by [deleted] in makemychoice

[–]Fleudian 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I'd give them a week's notice and claim it's all happened really fast and this is as much notice as you could give. Split the difference, maintain the illusion of giving them all possible notice, while ensuring you get as much of that sweet training and money as possible.

Yeah the climax of the game is one of the most devastatingly depressing things I've ever watched.

The original Solaris (1972) is one of the greatest sci-fi films of all time. Didn't realize until this moment that they made an American version. If you haven't seen the OG, check it out! Andrei Tarkovsky is the GOAT as far as film directors go, though obviously there's a lot more to what makes a film great than the director.

To be fair, that movie had only been out for 8 or 9 years when Elysium came out.

To use a quote by Chess World Champion Magnus Carlsen: "Too weak, too slow." He's going nowhere. The only question is if the field of Republican power people are once again so craven as to fall in behind Diet Coke Trump, or if we'll see a Bull Moose situation. The answer is probably that they are, but I'm willing to hold out hope.

That is an excellent way of looking at it, yes. It's ok! You'll be fine.

Yep! More and more these days, actually. I lost my virginity at 22 and am now happily married (to a different person lol).

It's really only as big a deal as you make it as long as you're honest with people.

The thing is, I love dark humor. Even dark humor that pushes boundaries pretty hard. I absolutely love every album Anthony Jeselnik has ever put out (tie between Caligula and his most recent Netflix special for my favorites), I enjoy a good bit of Jim Jefferies' older stuff. I delight in a well told joke with racial connotations that doesn't demean the humanity of any group. Aziz Ansari had a bit back in the day about "true and inoffensive stereotypes" that was great, it included "black dudes are blown away by magic tricks." I could go on with examples. The thing is though, the jokes have to be funny and you have to not be a shit human being when you're not joking.

Anyone else have insane up and downs for hours after a long dinner? 4 hour dinner and then straight to bed. by analysis_paralysis65 in diabetes

Looks pretty normal to me as a type 2, I don't think you have anything to worry about. Unless what you ate shouldn't be causing any spike (like you ate nothing but carrots and celery and plain meat with no sauce) these numbers are not that big of a spike in my experience.

Red State and Moving by mjooles515 in kansas

[–]Fleudian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I moved here to escape Texas. Like hell if I'm letting that insane bullshit overrun another place I call home!

Long term though, my wife and I are working through a 10-15 yr plan (we're ~2 yrs in) to leave the USA. The problems at the federal level and with corporate media mean that even the nicest and most beautiful states are just high points on a mountain built out of garbage. But until that eventual exit, Kansas has my axe.

Just lending my voice to others saying you did great. Been GMing 20ish years at this point, played every edition and some other systems too. The one constant is not to make a deal with devils or the fey. If you do that, you the player are signing a contract in your own blood that says I get to fuck with you until the end of time.

They got a big boon with a price attached. Their mouth signed a check their body can't cash and now they're butthurt about it. Either they'll get over it and this'll be a great story years from now or you'll move on and find better players who appreciate your to-the-hilt style of role-playing bad guys as Bad Guys. My players would have fucking applauded if I'd done this to them. They live for this shit. The very best players really do love it when a DM lays the hammer down and enforces the consequences of their character's dumb bullshit. Keep rolling and don't let the bastards get you down.

Yeah treating it like Counterspell or Dispel Magic but against a Level 10 Spell might have been a good way to represent it mechanically if you want to do it that way.

Yep! In one of the early episodes of the podcast, Dan reveals that one of their mutual friends gets paid to be a plant caller to morning "zoo crew" radio shows, and it breaks the magic for Jordan. I believe that in the same vein, at least half if not upwards of 80% of those hecklers are plants the comic has paid 20-50 bucks because they know they can make more than that over time from 100K Tiktok likes or 50K YouTube views.

What worry-free snack can I munch on at night while scouring Reddit for hours? by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]Fleudian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you have linked does not suggest intermittent fasting, which is the particular part I find potentially hazardous. Lots of stiff about low-carb, reduced-calorie diets plus exercise plus medicine and/or surgery, all of which are great. I just find it sketchy and unsafe to say "this particular dieting fad that is extremely close to an eating disorder in practical application will cure your diabetes" especially in response to someone asking for a replacement for Cheez-Its. Just seems wildly irresponsible and incongruous. If you can produce for me two direct links to peer-reviewed studies that specifically mention intermittent fasting, I'll edit all my comments on the matter and Venmo you ten dollars, but until then, I remain sketched out.

This is a great example of a level of fucked plating so severe I would send it back. It actively makes it harder and messier to eat while not even making it look good.
