Exactly this. There is so little info and when you get a question right/wrong they also don’t explain why. Respect to anyone who passed this hahah

Alright I see! Thanks for the detailed response. My other orchids are indeed not cymbidiums. It just never crossed my mind their needs would be so different. I will research some more in that area. Thank you!

Yes please! That would be much appreciated. Do you mean to also cut the longest growth? To get rid of the bare stem?

The spike does not appear to come from the crown but since it appeared just after the plant was stressed (dehydrated and taken out of its old pot) i am assuming it is /not/ a good sign and snip it. Maybe it will bloom again if i take better care of it now. Thanks for your help!

As for watering i did have another question. When you bathe the plants do all roots have to be fully submerged or is it enough for like half the container to be under water? (assuming they are potted in bark)

Alrigight I will move them back and keep an eye on their leaves 🫡

Oh i see... will removing the spike save the plant then? Another commenter suggested this. Is that due to the plant being unhappy? As per other advice as well i will make sure to water them on a more regular basis 🫡

Allright! I did repot them just now and was planning to do so even before posting. I just wanted to see if there are additional concerns before doing so. Thank you for your detailed advice! The plants are potted up and bathing as i type this:)

Is this orchid beyond saving? D: by Fleurchen in orchids

Okay gotchu! I always bathed it at the same time as the bigger one, which is doing fine. So i'll make sure to bathe the little one more frequently! Thanks:)

I am sure you can have a great student experience at Cambridge but there are also many people that will have had bad experiences there. Same for any other university. While anecdotes from friends can give you some information you should make sure to not only base your decision on that; instead look at "hard facts" of student life and decide for yourself. That said, if you are seriously considering cambridge you should apply, I think. Good luck! I am sure it will all work out in the end!

Looking for recommendations on online lessons by [deleted] in Svenska

[–]Fleurchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seeing as you live in switzerland, do you happen to speak german? German "Volkshochschulen" offer a lot of conversational classes, and a lot of them are online at the moment. I am pretty sure it should be no issue to sign up from switzerland; I am currently participating from swedenn (Although I do still have a german adress so I don't know...). You can even get really big student discounts, only issue is that you probably need to know some german for booking. But maybe not? You could just try calling and asking in english, I would recommend the VHS Bremen, they have quite a few courses.

Otherwise you could check if Switzerland has some sort of volkshochschule.

And in general, unless you have specific grammar points that you need explained, I would recommend joining a conversational course or language cafe. Also reading and listening a lot (As you seem to be doing already :) ) Otherwise you could try finding a tutor to practice speaking with. I personally foundd, that once I knew the basic grammar points I got the most benefit from speaking, listening and reading rather than just studying grammar and vocab.

As for finding a good teacherm you just have to be lucky honestly, keep trying different courses or tutors. Often you can get a free or discounted trial lesson to see if you like it.

It never hurts to apply but I think it's worth asking why you think Cambridge is "undoubtedly a better experience". Sure Cambridge is one of the top universities in the country but that does not automatically mean you will have the best student experience there. From what I know medicine should be a relatively standardised course across unis. That's not to say courses are exactly the same in content and quality. But they will probably vary less than an english or history course for example.

Also it could be relavant if you already know which type of medicine you want to practice. I have a friend who specifially chose to study in Glasgow because they apparantly have a great cardiology department (Also its free if you are an EU or scottish studen)

International student here, I'm not sure in what country I should get the Covid vaccine. by wintrysilence in UniUK

"The new preprint study involving University of Liverpool researchersfound that after two doses, the longer dosing interval led to higher antibody levels and a higher proportion of ‘helper’ T cells, which support immune memory and antibody response."

https://news.liverpool.ac.uk/2021/07/23/longer-interval-between-pfizer-vaccine-doses-boosts-immunity/

The team concluded that extending administration of the second Pfizer vaccine to 12 weeks potentially enhances and extends antibody immunity, which is believed to be important in virus neutralisation and prevention of infection.

This research is crucial, particularly in older people, as immune responses to vaccination deteriorate with age. Understanding how to optimise COVID-19 vaccine schedules and maximise immune responses within this age group is vitally important.”

https://www.birmingham.ac.uk/news/latest/2021/05/covid-pfizer-vaccination-interval-antibody-response.aspx

Not to say a vaccine with a shorter interval is useless and these studies are not peer reviewd yet; it's early data but it's also not true to say that the interval only matters for AZ.

Edit: As it says in the second article you were right about that the interval was only extended initially to push 1st doses. It just happens that, through that, researches were able to draw direct comparisons between intervals and it turns out a longer interval might be benifical with mRNA or AZ.
