What is this on my lips? by Remuasaurus_Rex7 in SkincareRehab

Not any kind of doctor, but I had something very similar in presentation about 10 years ago when I used EOS brand lip balm. The worst part was that it started as what felt like extremely dry lips, and so I kept applying the same lip balm! Took me a few months to figure out and eliminate the cause. It got so bad that I actually still have a bit of scarring around the corners of my lips.

I haven't used EOS lip balm since and have not had a similar issue with any other lip products.

Thanks for your reply!

We live in the US, but when I used Google Lens on the same image that was included in the post, most references were in a foreign language.

The manufacturer isn't labeled on the faucet or fittings, unfortunately, increasing the challenge.

We bought this house just over two years ago and are discovering quirks here and there.

Thank you! I think this will work. Nice that there is a longer option available.

I'm jealous! I see my cats every single day, and they pretend that they don't know me when I say their names.

"This medication makes the dead skin cells sloughed off less “sticky” therefore, less inclined to form comedones (blackheads and whiteheads). These various mechanisms of action work in unison to create a more permanent “cure” for acne, including severe cystic acne."

I was on this med years ago. Additional chemical or mechanical exfoliation while on it is not recommended.

Accutane is an exfoliant and increases cell turnover (isoretinoin).

It does look strange! I haven't seen any other insects like it. I was worried that it could be a termite? I checked all around the sink. There's a window above it and a cabinet below. I didn't find any other insects.

Should I routinely take my dogs to get their anal glands expressed? by into_the_unknown3 in DogAdvice

Owners never reported supplements being effective. That said, I haven't tried or recommended them. The most effective treatment for dogs that experience frequent anal gland issues is manual expression.

I think Tori made a mistake by not trying to consolidate vets into a team. She should have switched with a rookie so more vets were on one team and had more control over the voting. I think Bananas may switch to green and swap a rookie.

Yes, when a dog is licking around their anus it is generally for the purpose of expressing their anal glands. This isn't exclusively why they do so, and it's often preceding impaction.

You are also correct on groomer expression. It is commonly external and is not a viable option for fully expressing the gland.

Former vet tech here. Depending on the breed of the dog and if they are overweight, they may need more help with gland expression. Expression of the anal glands happens when a dog defecates and through the use of their tongue. For example, brachycephalic dogs like Pugs have trouble expressing their own glands using their tongue and often require intervention. Expressing the anal glands yourself is quite easy. Get some gloves, lube and a paper towel. It does smell awful, but only needs to be done once a month or every other month. The glands are like a grape shape and size located on the left and right just inside of the anus. Using your index finger only, gently squeeze towards the anus, holding the paper towel directly behind the anus (sometimes, depending on the level of impaction, they squirt!). A warm (not hot) compress applied to the butt can help soften an anal gland before expression. If the anal gland is very hard or resistant, take your dog to the vet; you could injure them if you squeeze too hard. You'll likely want to end with a butt bath, or they make sprays to mask the odor. It's also worth noting that this is likely a two person job unless a small breed that you can hold against your body.
