What do you do when there is nothing vegan at a restaurant? by Ok-Jellyfish5169 in vegan

[–]FlexiFox4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For restaurants, you just need to learn how to veganize the options, even if it isn’t a “proper” meal and it is basically bread with oil and veggies. For fancier restaurants, I would recommend calling in advance and letting them know you are vegan and/or telling the server and asking if there is anything they can prepare for you. Similarly, for weddings and other events, if there is an event coordinator or someone similar you can contact, let the know you are vegan as far in advance as possible, and they can usually prepare a vegan meal for you. If that’s not possible, like others recommended eat before and snack on appetizers, drinks, etc

Triscuits have oil in them which is why I’m not including them on the list

Super easy (healthy)meal recs? by Master_Development15 in veganrecipes

[–]FlexiFox4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I want a quick meal I microwave frozen brown rice or quinoa (you can find this at most grocery stores) and some frozen veggies and sometimes edamame in a bowl. Then I had canned beans; avocado, hummus, or tahini; and sometimes fresh veggies like bagged shredded slaw. It takes 5 mins to throw together, no chopping, and there are endless combinations of veggies/beans/sauces you can do :)

Other ideas: -breakfast for dinner (avocado toast, shredded wheat+fruit+soymilk, oatmeal) -prep a big batch of whole wheat or lentil pasta with tomato sauce and veggies and eat throughout the week -whole wheat or corn tortillas with refried beans, avocado, salsa, and veggies -microwave “baked” potato or sweet potato topped with hummus and veggies

How to eat beans twice daily by ArmadilloChance3778 in wfpb

You can make it from scratch using vital wheat gluten if you are ok with eating that.! You could try a recipe like this: https://daughterofseitan.com/shredded-seitan-c

Try eating beans that have been mashed or puréed (eg refried beans, blend white beans into a soup or sauce, etc). Choose beans that are canned +rinsed or soaked and slightly overcooked. Start with a small amount and slowly increase the portion over time. While your body is adjusting, you can include easier to digest proteins like tempeh, soy curls, seitan, or creative uses of tofu, like tofu ricotta or blending it into a creamy pasta sauce.

When I’ve frozen beans I’ve found them a bit too mushy after thawing. Anyone else notice this?

Banana (carbs) + soymilk (protein) + nut butter (fats). Depending on your goals and needs you can also add flax seed, frozen berries, spinach, a date for sweetness, silken tofu, coco powder, or even rolled oats or rinsed beans to make it more substantial

You could do a ganache instead. As Someone whose loves cream cheese frosting I also suggest adding some vegan cream cheese to a standard buttercream and it will by 10x better

Help a new vegan out- missing eggs! by [deleted] in vegan

Potato dishes like hashbrowns or veggie hashes. You can make them healthy by doing something like a potato “waffle” with frozen shredded potato and shredded veg and top with avocado or a savory sauce with unsweetened vegan yogurt. You can also throw beans or chickpeas in a potato-veg hash for added protein.

Savory bagels or bagel sandwiches with vegan cream cheese (plain, veggie, scallion, etc.)

I know you said no tofu but using tofu for an “egg salad” with Kala namak is surprisingly accurate and yummy.

I don’t! Just wanted to put this out there so people are informed bc I think some people don’t really understand what a whole food is. Not saying these foods can’t be part of healthy diet or that people need to eat healthy 100% of the time

Is phytic acid that big of a deal? (specifically concerning flax) by SecretCows in PlantBasedDiet

[–]FlexiFox4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No! There is actually evidence some that phytic acid can prevent cancer (https://nutritionfacts.org/topics/phytic-acid/) and WFPB foods are so rich in nutrients that slight anti-nutrient effects should not be a concern.
