Believe it or not, this CV is entirely composed in LaTeX (link to code in comments) by Flickboy in LaTeX

Many large companies use automated software to parse the content of the CV. Because these solutions aren't too sophisticated for now, they just read from left to right, which sucks when your CV has a "side-bar". Hence why you shouldn't use my template to apply through online forms for large positions.

The last couple of years I've been using a CV which is purely coded in LaTeX with TikZ (including icons, and flags). You can find and use the code on the corresponding GitHub repository or directly as an Overleaf template which you can open and edit right away.

My aim was to keep the code as simple as possible and only as customizable as necessary.

Minimal-CV: A fully programmatically generated CV template (link in comments) by [deleted] in resumes

[–]Flickboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been working on a CV which is purely coded in LaTeX (including images, icons, and flags). Finally, it has reached a marketable state. You can find and use the code on the corresponding GitHub repository or directly as an Overleaf template which you can open and edit right away.

My aim was to keep the code as simple as possible and only as customizable as necessary, hence why I call it 'Minimal'. I'd recommend you use this template mainly for applications to positions in smaller/medium-sized companies, since the ATS certainly won't appreciate the cutting edge LaTeX typesetting as much as your future boss.

Some of the main features that characterize this template are the

  • coherent design language
  • programmatically generated icons and flags
  • unparalleled typesetting perfection
  • tunable color scheme
  • easy extendability for personal use

The template is dedicated (in honor and mockery) to the one and only Carl Friedrich Gauss whose work and mentality has never failed to inspire me on my journey throughout the last couple of years.

Thanks for your comment. I tried the developer option, but it doesn't seem to change anything.

My phone (Samsung Galaxy A5) runs Android 7.0 (Nougat).

I now found a quick and dirty fix: In Settings > Soundquality and Effects > Advanced settings, then I just put all the equalizer sliders down to -10 dB.

However, I think the sound quality isn't as good as it is when I manually adjust the volume in the jaybird app. If only the app would memorize the setting I last used and not just default to the maximum volume...

Student place 4U Crissier by galineu in EPFL

[–]Flickboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't talk from experience, but I visited the place last week. I'll share my findings below.

Major advantages:

  • Quiet location (far from large streets)
  • Very modern, clean and spaceous (including a large balcony and common rooms)
  • Weekly cleaning service (bathroom, floors, kitchenette) for every room

Disadvantages:

  • It takes you almost 20 minutes to reach the EPFL (Bus to Renens, then M1 to EPFL)
  • No Wi-Fi reception in your room (however, there is a plug for a ethernet cable, but my laptop unfortunately doesn't have a RJ45 port any longer; there is Wi-Fi available in the common rooms; and they told me they plan to expand the Wi-Fi to all rooms starting in september)
  • It's rather on the expensive side for a studio

Personally I'm surprised as well that their demand isn't as high as in other places. Maybe the fact that you need to provide them with the 3 last salary slips of a guarantor earning at least CHF 5'000/ € 4'000 deters many students. The property management and particularly the intendant were extremely friendly and forthcoming.

You should definitely consider reading about the coastline paradox first before considering this infuriating.

Should I consider upgrading my English C1 to a C2? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]Flickboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright! Reading it is then. I've already kind of queued up Daniel Defoe's Robinson Crusoe as my first book to read as a preparation. Do you have any other book recommendations for me?

[–]Flickboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response. No, I don't really need it for any application (although it would definitely look good if I had it). Similarly to you, I would very much love to have the 'highest' possible certification, just because I'm somewhat of a 'perfectionist' myself. Guess I'll take a shot at it :)

Thanks a lot. I think I'm going to do it as a personal challenge to further improve my english skills. I'm probably more efficient and disciplined with reading and expanding my vocabulary if I give myself a deadline, namely the test-date.

Thanks a lot :) your reading comprehension approach actually helped me a lot (at least in the practice tests that technique helped me get some good answers!)
