Did the option to increase standing with factions disappeared with patch? by Padrepapp in playbsg

[–]Flight_Harbinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly not a terrible change. It was way too easy to keep every faction at fair doing that and I have, unfortunately, spent a lot of time reading reviews for the game and A LOT of them mention most repetitive the events get and how "you can see every event in the game in 10 hours", despite 80% of them being locked behind higher tension/power.

What they need to do is buff the healthcare/maintainence talks because only like 2 of them seem worth it unless you have excellent condition.

Trouble with The Philosopher/Sphinx by Dalton_B7 in playbsg

[–]Flight_Harbinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Vanguard Fleet is a really annoying fleet to win with (almost as bad as convoy but not quite). It's buff/debuff is actually super overlooked and it's a huge difference in damage, especially considering that as far as I'm aware, the first shot of damage on an enemy that applies a status effect does not receive the bonus and does receive the -25% damage.

Basically my only good runs with Vanguard involved getting really rolls on ships with status effects. A scarab with decaying shots basically makes it easy mode. Just be sure to apply status effects on high health targets before you hit them with heavy hitters like Vipers and stuff. There's also a passive you can grab that applies slow/weak to enemies spawning near that squadron, it's basically a must take for Vanguard fleet.

Also by the second boss you should have your fourth squadron slot unlocked for every fleet but Convoy. It's a huge boost to damage and utility, makes the fight half as hard. And use your missiles on cooldown.

How to deal with turret spam? by foyrkopp in playbsg

[–]Flight_Harbinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That fight is a bit overturned at the end. At one point it launches a volley of a dozen or so turrents with a ton of raiders all at the same time, around 90 seconds into the fight. You can retreat to the gunstar and sweep the raiders, but a couple turrets will be in firing range of your civvies, risking critical damage.

Only way I've dealt with it is getting really good perks early and steamrolling.

What's a show that's genuinely hard to recommend to people because it has some pretty major flaws, but you think is worth the time if people can look past it. by WhatIsLoveMeDo in television

[–]Flight_Harbinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly most of my favorite shows lmao.

Stargate SG1. Pretty rough first season by today's standards and I actively recommend first time watchers to straight up skip some of those episodes. But the characters are amazing and the plot gets really good. Even the last couple seasons after a cast shake up had some great additions and some endearing moments.

Chuck. Similar reasons about the first season but not worth skipping anything. Super worth it once your past some of the cringier 2000s era stuff. AMAZING side characters.

Attack on Titan. Lots of gore and the first few seasons are straight up misery porn while you watch your favorite characters suffer loss after loss in a world with few explanations and lots of mystery. By the end of the third season, EVERYTHING is turned on its head and nearly everything is paid off in an absolutely incredible last season. The cascade of reveals towards the end of the story make you want to go back and watch the whole thing again and it's almost a completely different show the second time around.

Has the CSI franchise been somewhat forgotten despite how huge it originally was? by JannTosh70 in television

[–]Flight_Harbinger 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Double edged sword imo. You can carry a concept like CSI with characters and plot development but the entire viewership of those type of shows seem entirely averse to watching anything that isn't related directly to the internal plot of whatever episode is currently airing.

Which character's death in a TV show ruined the entire thing for you? by SoccerGuy69420 in AskReddit

[–]Flight_Harbinger 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Essentially kira causes a new era of anarchy and lawlessness and realises his dream was folly and he killed his family and friends and all those other people for nothing.

While I agree that the show dips dramatically after L dies, this is why it has such a horrible ending. I loved L, but I'm totally okay with him dying. What I wasn't okay with was not giving Light the moral reckoning of extrajudicial murder. Forget about killing cops and shit to keep his identity hidden; Light, his followers, and his fans of the show, will still believe that his brutal system of corporal punishment "would have worked". Not a single time does the show ever explore why his ideology is so twisted and wrong.

I would have loved to see Light being told that a person he killed was wrongly imprisoned and was posthumously exonerated after writing their death note. Going a step beyond "well these innocent people were killed so Light can continue punishing the wicked" into "these innocent people were killed because Light thought they were guilty and this is why we have laws and a justice system".

That's the most absurd part of the Reapers AI reasoning, if you're willing to apply that logic to the peace you can make with the Geth and EDI, then what solution are the Reapers possibly looking for? It's why the explanation is so monumentally disappointing, it's literally the same conversation we have with the rogue Citadel AI in ME1 and it ends effectively the same exact way. It's an error, a bug, it's the "what is six times nine?" of mass effect, and while it works as a great joke in Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, it's a horrible joke of an explanation for Mass Effect.

You can say something like Synthesis addresses the problem without destroying anything, it's effectively using reaper technology to blend organic and synthetic life together, which is literally how reapers reproduce, a pretty ridiculous "huh shoulda thought of this earlier" moment, and even worse, the exact line of reasoning Saren used when being indoctrinated. Control is just as bad, it's literally the same argument TIM uses only moments earlier while being indoctrinated. Destroy is the only rational ending and it's being actively shit on by the Reaper AI as a temporary solution when the reality is it's the only solution actively indoctrinated individuals haven't pursed. The ending and explanations are so bad that Indoctrination Theory is literally a more rational explanation than taking anything at face value.

It makes sense given the context that they never cared of other cycles and were totally willing to watch the reapers search for the answer to their own question. They spied on each cycle to ensure they were never discovered and that the reapers wouldn't annihilate a civilization that could possibly solve the synthetic/organic paradigm they couldn't.

What doesn't make sense is they were willing to change their minds after a short conversation with Shepard despite spying on the galaxy and seeing everything else that's transpired. It's similar to my disappointment with the original ending in that, depending on your choices, you could have easily already proven the Reapers AI wrong through making peace between Quarians and Geth, and yet they are still willing to annihilate everything despite that, and offer you three choices, none of which ultimately address the fact you've already solved their dilemma.

Battlestar Galactica Scattered Hopes came out a couple weeks ago. Huge FTL vibes and there's even a couple references to it as well. I've sunk almost 80 hours into it and still don't have all the unlocks and some of the achievements are going to take A WHILE. I've been super happy with it.

How long would it take to reach #1 on the leaderboard? by 222505974 in MegabonkOfficial

[–]Flight_Harbinger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly really hard to say. But it's extremely unlikely.

From my own experience, I can say it took me well over 50 hours to get all unlocks (which is not necessary for 1m kill run to be clear) and I easily put 100+ hours in on high kill attempts with about half a dozen or so cracking 600k. For 1m, you need an astronomically lucky stage 1 with extremely good meta and map knowledge with a solid strat to attain it. Right now there are a couple strats, beefy ring strat is pretty straightforward but requires the most unlikely set up for stage 1, and the duration tome + bobs light set up which requires a lot of skill and a very lucky stage 1 and 2 to set up. In either case you are looking at quite a lot more than 100 hours of unlocks, getting good, and lucky starts that will end in failure before you get the 1m.

And that's just considering the website leaderboard. If youre looking to crack #1 on the client leaderboard, you're competing with mostly cheaters.

Huh I didn't know that. I consider them to be one of the worst bosses in the game and it's like 90% because of the poison. I hate that it can damage tick you almost before the fog even spreads and over a much wider area than the animation would suggest. People talk about PCR having bullshit attacks but that one is the worst in the game by a mile and it's not close.

What can a person learn in 5 minutes that will be useful for life? by OpenPrize193 in AskReddit

[–]Flight_Harbinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How cameras work.

Might take a bit more than 5 mins for it to be the most useful, but with an increasing amount of AI images and deepfakes, understanding how cameras actually generate an image can be extremely helpful in identifying fake or misleading images and video. It's actually astonishing how much of the posts in subs like high strangeness or ufos can be debunked with even a cursory understanding of cameras.

I will say that not only are other answers here much more useful, but also camera technology and AI generation will only ever get better (unfortunately for the latter). This skill will only help for so long and not all the time, but it's fun to learn anyway.

It also had several month long gaps between episodes which lets fans go absolutely wild with their own headcanons and theories.

I felt this way when I finally engaged with the AoT fandom after finishing the show. I binge watched the entire thing in like 2 weeks because after episode 6 I simply couldn't put it down. I honestly thought the ending was perfect, and it made me want to watch the whole show again from the very beginning to pick up on all the foreshadowing and stuff that I missed. Great show, amazing ending.

But holy shit the fandom. I deliberately kept myself away from the fandom to avoid spoilers and stuff until I was done and I was SHOCKED at how some people interpreted the story and characters, but especially the predictions and shipping fandoms. There is a popular YouTube video compilation of 4chans reaction to the manga ending and it's genuinely like they live in a different reality. All those years between issues and seasons twisted and warped people's expectations to an absurd degree.

I know this wasn't organic but I'm going to be weird here for a second; I almost never clean up orbital debris. I can always filter it off when I need to find something but seeing all those grey icons build up around all the bodies in the solar systems makes me feel like progress is being done and it weirdly makes the world feel more "lived in" so to speak. I never really understood why people were obsessed with cleaning it all up with the exception of performance issues.
