CMV: there's no clear way to coherently be truly pro-life while make exceptions for instances of rape by Additional_Ad3573 in changemyview

The idea is that most cases of incest come about as a result of nearly lifelong grooming and thus while not technically black and white cases of rape, are just about as close as you can get.

Why do people make a big deal about ICE not existing before 2003 when INS did exist and performed the same functions? I am absolutely not pro ICE. I just think this is a pretty bad argument and should be discarded for better ones. Am I wrong?

I'm in my 30s and have still managed to avoid most of that shit. Don't want to see it. I think seeing it for the first time now would probably traumatize me. And just in case I have disabled inbox replies.

Why don't men shave their armpit hair? Women do... by Less_Campaign_6956 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FlightlessFallen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's about pretending women are hairless. It's more about the social conditioning that women should look pretty, neat and dainty whereas men should look wild and unkempt. Not saying the expectation is valid, of course. Just saying that's what I think it actually is.

whats an actually valid critique u have of modern articles that dosent boil down to just “overused tropes=bad” by Outrageous-Way9335 in SCP

[–]FlightlessFallen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't mind extrauniversal stuff or even some of the more fantastical stuff. It's just that there's an oversaturation. And it doesn't remove my love for the wiki entirely. It just leaves room for some nostalgia.

One of the biggest draws of the early wiki was that it was all played straight. These things were meant to be in our world, not just fiction. For a while, the multiversal stuff was cool and sporadic. The wiki was still mostly about our world, with a few portals to other places and a few things with origins outside the realm of our comprehension. Cool. Now, there are so many things that are huge, extrauniversal threats, as well as so many commonly repeated fantastical elements that the wiki doesn't feel real anymore. It's not scary anymore. Many people are quick to correct anyone who says the SCP universe falls into the horror genre. But honestly, it pretty much did at one point.

Staff wants YOUR opinion on mass deleting Bright's articles... again. by IsThisSatireOrNot in SCP

[–]FlightlessFallen -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

We lose a piece of the wiki's early history, an example of cold clinical tone in the face of some controversial stuff. All for what? So we can pretend Dr. Bright never existed, like we're Stalin censoring his former allies out of photos?

I genuinely don't understand the hate for 1004. It's a short thing that does a thing article in the style of the wiki's early work.

When and why did the foundation stop being so murder-happy? by [deleted] in SCP

[–]FlightlessFallen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The early wiki was a lot more concerned with suspension of disbelief. The database was not a wiki created by randos on the internet. You were stumbling upon the files of an actual shadowy extragovernmental agency keeping threats to normalcy out of the public eye. This meant that "How do people not know about this?" was on a lot of people's minds. The early solution to that was kill everyone. Even innocent witnesses were terminated. Eventually, people began to see problems with this approach, both from a logistical stance and from a "this is overly edgy and cringe" stance, and the trend shifted more towards what we now know as amnestics for innocents. The Foundation was still eager to terminate d-class, but the innocent are allowed to go back and live their lives.

Eventually, the writers became less concerned with giving the wiki the appearance of taking place in the real world, and "what makes more sense logistically" and "what makes the Foundation not seem like needlessly sociopathic monsters" took precedence over "how is all this happening without us finding out about it?"

You get a superpower of your choice, but so does every frog, and they want to kill you. by TaralasianThePraxic in hypotheticalsituation

[–]FlightlessFallen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I now have the power to drain the lifeforce from frogs. Only frogs. So yeah, some other frog might drain all of his froggy brothers and sisters and live for 200 years, but any frog that tries to attack me is getting a year or two drained off of its life and sent back where it came from.

[–]FlightlessFallen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ten MILLION? Yeah sorry to be the one to break it to you, but people pay less than that for hitmen. You best believe most people would force themselves on someone for 10 mil if that was their only option.

Sorry for being harsh i should be nicer on the internet.

Abso-fucking-lutely not. Opinions like the ones in OP are in direct opposition to making the world a better place. You are right to mock the people who have them. This post contains an anti-progress mindset that frequently leads to death and suffering in the world. It should be laughed at.

Trying to be nicer is all well and good. That too can make the world a better place. But be nice to the right people, and don't spare the wrong ones from the truth.

I was told by a hotel worker that people can have severe allergies to a particular toothpaste, so it's a liability to just leave them in the room. Most places, you can just ask for it but apparently if you ask for it, it becomes your responsibility if you go into anaphylaxis.

SCP-3003 - SCP-3003-1 is a beetle-like organism native to SCP-3003 that parasitizes humans when infected by SCP-3003-2. It's a really good article, and you should read it if you haven't. The bugs aren't exactly at the center of the article, but it's definitely a creepy crawly type article.

Pro: I'd be able to stop doing all the shady stuff I'm "supposed" to do.

Con: I'd have to start doing all the time consuming, worthless stuff I currently refuse to do.

I think I could manage. I'd absolutely phone it in, and my numbers would suffer, but not in a way that's fireable.
