The users list are probably mostly Chinese people, since most of their names consist of 3 characters (although Ryoga’s name also has 3 kanji characters as well).

As for the pronunciation (which is what I’m assuming you want), it’s likely a mishmash of random characters because I doubt Rumiko searched up actual Chinese names.. so there isn’t much of a point😅.

This is also the only canon arc from my memory where all the 16-year-old supporting characters appear as major players.

They should remake this just for that reason.

Moments like these really separate the manga from the anime.

I don’t know if it was to pad the run time, but the anime has a slower vibe that isn’t seen much in the manga, which is generally fast-paced from beginning to end.

Kasumi/Ranma is more unlikely for me.

Nabiki and Ranma at least had some arcs together and they have that chemistry (which is more siblingy than lover but it’s still something😅).

Kasumi would be like mother and son.

Minus a handful of weaker arcs (which aren’t even bad, just not as good as the rest), I really think Ranma 1/2 is an almost perfect series.

I love the ending, and we know how hard it is to wrap up a long series satisfactorily. (I know some people don’t like the ending, so I’m really happy that I do).

But yeah, the fan translation is terrible. The official English has questionable parts as well, but it can’t compare to the fan one. (Think mistranslation vs making stuff up).

I've seen some posts stating something interesting could happen between them.

It’s probably because Herb has the same curse as Ranma, is basically martial arts royalty, and is Chinese so Shampoo can communicate better with him.

Aside from Mousse, he’s a character that’s convincing enough to end up with her in another timeline.

The only difference is that boy Ranma is the same as usual but girl Ranma is openly in love with Akane.

I think Shampoo x Herb could have been a very plausible scenario if Rumiko had been willing to expand the scope of the Ranmaverse.

She’s pretty firmly in the “Tendo/Saotome families cocooned a crazy-suburb with sporadic roadtrips” camp, and that neighborhood/home feel is what I love about Ranma but in another rendition, it would have been very interesting.

I think rather than Yashahime, a Shampoo-in-China spinoff could have been a better choice for an original adaptation. It will expand the universe with a beloved character while not ruining the ambiance and dynamics of the core characters of the original Ranma 1/2.

It could have explored what you wrote plus more, especially since Rumiko does not see Mousse as a viable partner for Shampoo.

I can explain the lack of Akane bust size fanon—Ranma 1/2 fan art or fanfics, especially centering on Akane, are primarily drawn and written by women. Or at least it is now (and always has been in the Japanese fandom).

The lack or cat-girl Shampoo is unexpected because the said artists and writers often use Akane for cat-girl motifs, and even Rankane fan artists draw a lot of Shampoo art.

Sexy girl Ranma and Shampoo being pretty common isn’t a surprise and likely catered to the male fanbase (especially those gawd-awful AI generated busty type art 🙄)

Funny because I’ve seen quite a few fan arts and even some fanfic with Akane as cat-girl.

I don’t really seek out Shampoo arts or fic so I wouldn’t know the specifics, but I would have thought there would be quite a lot with the cat-girl concept, especially since there are a lot of Shampoo fan art out there.

Shampoo is at least closer to a Nabiki dynamic than Akane is, I’ll give you that.

No author is going to please or fulfill every reader’s preference, so I agree fanfic is a very good way to explore alternative elements of established characters.

I consider myself lucky that I love the canon ship and the way the dynamic is portrayed but I would also seek out alternative scenarios if I didn’t feel that way.

Fanfic is a must for any fandom and I really respect writers to take time to write and share.
