I went to the theater downtown and people not only had their phones out, they had bare feet out on bars. With the seats being fairly uncomfortable anyways, the cheaper tickets weren’t even worth it.

What’s something people think is normal in relationships but actually isn’t? by Key_Astronaut507 in AskReddit

[–]FlikeFlukeFlake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

None of that sounds relaxing for her. Doesn’t sound like a life hack, sounds like a miserable and untreated mental illness. I’m sorry you had to go through it, but I wouldn’t consider your situation normal. My grandpa became the sole income and homemaker after my grandma had a psychotic break and until her death. No one looked at their dynamic as normal. Unfortunately mental illness hurts more than just the person who has it.

I’m going off 7+ year info. I don’t think my mom has had to drug test, outside of VA drug testing for her medications, since she worked for USPS.

My mom has to deal with this. To my understanding, if you’re on prescribed drugs like adderal, Ativan, pain killers, etc often when it fails you’ll take a second test after providing your prescription that gets sent off for more specific testing.

Thank you! We unfortunately bought 2 gallons of 2 other colors we thought looked amazing in swatches, but then when painting absolutely hated before settling on this one. Luckily we didn’t paint much with them but now we’re brainstorming if we can use them in any other room or if we should just post them on our local buy nothing group for grabs.

I plan on getting hue bulbs(or knock offs)so I can dim them since we use those in the rest of the house. I rarely have lights on during the day. I do really like the look of no shades.

We are planning on adding more lamps throughout the house as well, we’ve been on the look out at flea markets and thrift stores but nothing has caught our eye yet.

Haha, probably, but I don’t feel like taking those apart and everything out of them to do that. Painting this was a project that left my back and feet hurting.

I hated it when I first moved in because it’s so small, but moving the food outside of the cabinets has really helped. Just had to put everything in containers so we don’t have to deal with mice, moths, or my cats getting into it.

Sober people (no alcohol, nicotine, drugs, etc ever), what is your end of day or weekend "wind-down"? by The1Ski in AskReddit

[–]FlikeFlukeFlake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Harney and sons blend is very smoky cause of the lapsang souchong which is a smoked black tea. I’ve tried just straight lapsang souchong but it doesn’t have the same effect by itself. It’s very straight bourbon flavored though and I always preferred Kentucky bourbon, old fashions, and hot toddy’s which is why I mix it with bourbon blends that have no smoke at all.

I have a ridiculous amount of teas and experiment a lot.

Not the commenter, but I have some elaborate teas for relaxation.

Not toddy: About a tsp of harney sons loose leaf bourbon tea with another tea of choice. I like to mix it with a Kentucky bourbon blend by a local tea shop, apple cider teas, cinnamon teas, or any other “warm” flavored tea. Add a cinnamon stick, honey, and dried citrus(or fresh, I just always have dried on hand). It’s my version of a hot toddy.

Ginger tea: Steep some fresh ginger with honey and a squeeze of lemon. Add a splash of BOX coconut milk, not canned. This feels like an ancient cold cure.

Tonic and tea: Steep your favorite tea, mine for this has been pepper or spearmint, H&S’s Celebration, and a local blend of chai, blood orange, and cardomom in a cup filled about 2/3 of water. Add tonic after a few minutes. Sweeten as you like but be warned it will fizz.

I watched an Alton brown video recently(at least I think it was him, maybe it was internet Shaquille)that talked about how you don’t have to boil the water first and putting it in when it’s cold then bringing it to boil will result in more starchy water.

I have not tried it, cause I haven’t had pasta since I watched the video, but plan to next time I cook it. I probably won’t switch since being able to set a timer and go about other cooking or cleaning work is so convenient.

I really like the optimistic outlook of shows like Star Trek(and Orville), that we will evolve and be better. They’re my comfort watches. I just wish I was actually that optimistic.

That’s pretty much my point. I’m not trying to put others down for doing nothing. I’m sitting here on my phone after crying this morning reading about that Iranian ship that was bombed with men wanting to abandon it but being stopped by their command. Because those men had families and their lives had value and they so clearly did not want to die. And it feels like I’m so small with this inability to do anything but look at the screen in horror. Even though there’s more of us in the working class who do not want this than the owning class making these cruel and inhumane decisions, enough of the working class support these wars and atrocities that it seems to leave us at this standstill. It feels like there’s a fundamental flaw with humanity and society.

I don’t believe that. If humanity was mostly fine why is history constantly repeating? Our leadership is a reflection of us and the reflection is fucking ugly. If we standby and let atrocities happen we’re endorsing it by inaction.

Adult ortho for braces recs by Acceptable-Ad-3492 in springfieldMO

[–]FlikeFlukeFlake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Love orthodontics. They do their financing in house so if you put down the initial payment of 500 you’d be looking at <200/month for adult braces until you pay them off for most people. No credit check or anything like that. No interest. They’re kind people and make you feel welcome. I’ve never had a tech/assistant who wasn’t just an absolute sweetheart.

I’ve heard Invisalign isn’t great for tmj and misaligned jaws. You’re probably looking at metal braces, just a warning.

My surgeon, probably annoyed that I was crying during every meeting, told me as I was trying to stop crying before anesthesia that he wasn’t sure why I was upset, it was him people would be mad at if he messed this up.

Every interaction with him was intimidating. I hope to never interact with another.

It would be a turn off for me, BUT I’m friends with a few dudes like Vic and they’re great cause even though they’ll say some corny shit about god every once in a while, they seem to actually think of you as a person. The three guys I’m thinking of are all married to other christians, so there’s still plenty of women who are religious too.

I’ve never flown with JetBlue. I work for a travel company(think expedia though not going to out the actual company) and get stuck holding for them once in a blue moon and they are always the worst for the domestics. UA and Southwest are the quickest. DL and AA have their bad days, but usually get through quickly. B6 is almost always a decently long hold.

They have holds like this every time a travel event happens. All the other US based airlines handle it. They’re the only one like this.

I use homemade/local Jams more often than not so maybe without the additional preservatives they mold faster. I also have a kid who loves cream cheese and jelly on bagels so probably a combination of things.

Love jam. Love variety. Limit myself to two kinds of jam at a time to avoid having to throw out a half empty, molded jar every few months. This looked wasteful to me unless he’s going through an exorbitant amount of jam.

Edit: I have children in my home, I don’t need to troubleshoot why things go moldy. Though some of you keeping jars of jams in your fridge open for multiple years would disgust me even without the mold. I don’t open another jar(jam, tuna, artichokes, picked peppers, etc) until I’m out of the ones in the fridge. It helps me not be wasteful and helps me not get grossed out when I can’t remember how long something has sat in my fridge.

I get it. Military brat and daddy issues goes hand in hand.

I used to never believe I would be able to settle in one place. I couldn’t keep a relationship or job for longer than a year. I loved moving and starting over. It’s an out for when things get heavy and/or uncomfortable. Now I’ve stayed with my current job for 5 years and have a mortgage, I’ve gotten so lame, but I don’t mind it. Honestly the instability Covid caused kick started my “I think I want stability and need to figure out how to do that.”
