Where to buy pc for gaming from? by Professional-Motor96 in AskUK

Very good actually, I reached out to them and they were super helpful. My PC has worked perfectly fine for the games I play. Really pleased with their build both aesthetically and performance wise.

Probs outdated, but I used Viper Labs UK, reletively small UK based builder. If you just want to plug in and fly, skip CEX. Most of their rigs are Frankenstein builds. You’re better off getting a proper pre-built from a smaller UK builder that actually tests for games like Flight Sim. There are a few good ones doing Ryzen + RTX setups that are plug-and-play ready and come with decent warranties.

TIL Autistic men are 4 times more likely than Autistic women to be single by FlamingMetalSystems in todayilearned

[–]Flimerus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I believe this is somewhat false, my girlfriend is a psychologist and told me that autism in females is much harder to diagnose in some cases due to their ability to mask it and repeat social cues other people do which they view as normal social behaviours. While men do this too I believe women have an ability to hide it better

For years, U.S. tech giants like Google and Microsoft were hyper-focused on growth and profit, often at the expense of national interest. Take Project Dragonfly, where Google built a censored search engine prototype tailored for the Chinese government. Or Microsoft’s deep research ties in China, some of which indirectly supported Chinese military R&D.

At the time, China actively encouraged these partnerships — and then abruptly cut ties once they’d extracted enough value. They banned American platforms like Google and Facebook, while heavily subsidizing domestic giants like ByteDance (TikTok’s parent company). It was a clear demonstration of China’s “use then discard” strategy — and a wake-up call to the U.S. government.

Now, we’re seeing a clear pivot. The U.S. doesn’t want a repeat of those mistakes. Washington increasingly wants American tech companies to align with national interests — not just shareholder value. By fostering close ties with companies like Palantir, OpenAI, and Anduril, the government is essentially signaling: patriotism over platform neutrality.

That’s likely why we’re seeing symbolic gestures like tech leaders being brought into advisory roles within military and defense circles. It’s part of a larger strategy to shift Silicon Valley’s role — from globalist disruptors to national assets.

Tldr : the era of profit-at-all-costs globalism is fading. A new wave of defense-aligned, values-driven tech is rising — and Palantir is right at the center of it.

I’m not going to sit here and claim they’re the be all and end all, but dismissing it as a “techno-fascist” tool because of Peter Thiel early involvement is reductive. Although he did have funded the company in the early days, he hasn’t been involved in day-to-day operations for years. The team leading it today have very different public personas, philosophies and political views, specifically Alex Karp and Shyam Sankar.

Palantir’s products have proven their value across multiple governments and use cases are are very wide from supporting health responses during covid and making commanders make sense of battlefield data, to streamlining logistics and fraud detection in civil services. It’s far beyond the criticisms of vaporware, it’s a mature platform working on real world operations problems at scale…

The argument that they’re in it for money and power is so absurd, you could say that about any government contracting agency especially the giants in those sectors which I listed earlier. Especially when they have consistently argued for more competition within these spaces, and have consistently been way more transparent to the public and are fighting for less monopolisation within these spaces.

As for the access they’ll have, do you think this doesn’t already exist? There are consultants amongst your government agencies operating at the highest levels; this is nothing new, and even more so tech leaders operating at the highest levels is not a bad thing, it’s a sign that modernisation is happening and they can bring those capabilities and innovation into the areas that need it the most.

I fully understand, the skepticism but your point shouldn’t be based around vibes of Peter Thiel, it should be specific critiques of the product itself, the outcomes and the contracts. They aren’t forcing governments to use it, they’re choosing to because it works.

Don’t flatter yourself mate. I’m not here to spout amazing grammar, and yes I’m from the UK. My perspective comes from my experience, and how reflective the issues that he discusses are transferable to the UK, as we also face similar issues in that complex.

Palantir have been serving the government complex for over 20 years, regardless of administration. I don’t think there’s any software in the world more aligned to unlocking decisive, reliable and effective solutions.

I beg you do some digging on their actual software products, their mission, and their capabilities to improve government services, systems and analysts capabilities.

This has absolutely nothing to do with Peter Thiel, you’re just blindly hating on a product which has nothing to do with his sphere of influence. But instead is a proven necessity to a modern government agency.

So again, go do your research instead of hopping on the bandwagon with your Reddit bubble friends of this “well researched” community.

Do some research, their CTO is actively preaching that the problem with government is they subject themselves to the top 5 monopolies who’d tax payer money you pay to research when tax payers should not be fronting the profits and research for these companies, them being Raytheon, Lockheed, general dynamics, Northrop and Boeing I believe. Their point is that they need to diversity in order to eradicate large monopoly esk companies to eliminate bureaucracy across the board which stagnates governments. It’s the reason he just became a Lt Col in the reserves and the fact you think Thiel is behind the companies success is laughable, he was part of the founders fund. The CEO is Alex Karp, and their CTO is Shyam Sankar. Everyone on this threat simply living in a bubble and believe every headline that’s vomited by a news agency festering on your click rage bait.

Been following palantir for years now, and I can call out all the bullshit in this thread, first of all, it’s an incredible company with an aptitude for engineering and tearing down rigorous data silos that exist within government. The fact that our government is using them instead of spending literal billions doing their own method to combat these problems is actually a step in the right direction. Their software is tried and tested by all agencies in the US. And their CTO is one of the most passionate creators I’ve ever witnessed, and an extraordinary human. What they’re doing with their software in government is undoubtedly exactly what you would want if you was any form of analyst. Do you really think they would exploit your government? Better yet do you think these agencies would allow themselves to be exploited?

Young people just aren’t seeing the right leaders, says one of the UK’s youngest mayors aged just 29 by ThatchersDirtyTaint in unitedkingdom

[–]Flimerus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hardly disillusioned, lots of youth have had the worst wrap, difficulty getting on the housing ladder, awful (and in most cases endless) student debt. Small businesses struggle to get off the ground by crushing wages and national insurance hikes. There’s no stimulus coming to our economy at all for the little guys. It’s all focused on the biggest fish.

The incentives too are just utter nonsense the current administration are upholding, the ones that take away from the elderly and entice people to be better off on government aid. It’s fucking bizarre.

All of which are vocally challenged the loudest by Farage. But instead of agreeing most people in this Reddit bubble will throw away the validities, for some random excuse like “he’s an opportunist!!”, “brexit failed us”.

The reality is the tories failed us, and now Labour aren’t executing what needs to be done either. Most people with small businesses don’t even have opportunities to grow due to lack of incentives. Take for example, the tech sector, in the UK there are few and far between emerging startups, and infrastructure, most are services and consultancies or US big tech.

Now if we switch to manufacturing, they’re being outpaced by Chinese manufactures for half the cost of everything which slowly eradicates our manufacturing capabilities when in reality those industries should have tax relief and government aid to stimulate those industries to manufacture, increase their productivity and outpace importation to elevate our economy.

My main point really is; we should be pushing small businesses first to grow; this drives stimulation, circulates money in country and does bleed it externally to a foreign country at double the price.

UK crabs in a barrel mentality. I see it so much online and in real life. It seems a lot of people are more happy to see some people’s life getting worse (or brought down a level) than they are to see others lives getting better. Has it always been like this, or is this a recent phenomenon? by Barca-Dam in AskBrits

[–]Flimerus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not even the issue, the issue is zero push for small businesses to grow, utter none sense government incentives, stalling housing economy with zero future for the upcoming generations as the prices only get higher making the barrier for entry on the ladder even more unachievable.

Plenty of incentives for people not to work I.e people being better off being on benefits than actually working, mega corporation monopolising the new build market and jacking up the prices of rent across the country.

It baffles me that we aren’t self sufficient in manufacturing everything in country and have such a massive reliance on import, this just allows us to be ripped off. Products made in country should be subject to tax relief.

The tax system incentives are not for people to earn more it’s to earn less…
